Ghosts and the Machine
'Ghostbusters' and ‘Tron’ Return to Comics

Two film faves from the ‘80’s are making their much-anticipated return, this time to the world of comics. 88MPH Studios, makers of the upcoming Transformers:Genesis art book, have slated Ghostbusters and Tron comics for November release!

Both will start as four-issue miniseries written by Andrew Dabb (Vertigo's Happydale). Pencilled by Shane Davis (Robin), Ghostbusters will take place in the continuity of just the first film, picking up 6 months after Gozer's appearance in New York. The mini will be followed by an ongoing title, said Sebastien Clavet, 88 MPH's art director and sales editor. “We'll make sure that the tome of the series is more serious and any previous incarnation of the franchise” he said, “while keeping the unique homor that only GB has.”

The first Tron mini, pencilled by newcomer Gabe Bridwell, will deal with the events following the recent Tron 2.0 video game. After that, a second mini will travel back in time 20 years to explore the universe of the original film and the classic characters that we've all grown to love there, said Clavet. He promises “enough eye candy to blow your mind away”.

Both titles will be full-color, 22-page books.

Unlike last month's micro-blurb, there's some information we didn't already know here! My chief question is…Shane Davis? What happened to Billy Dallas Patton? :-O

Yeah, Ive been wondering about that ever since viewing the 88mph website requesting people to submit samples of their art to take over for the ghostbusters comic book.

…requesting people to submit samples of their art to take over for the ghostbusters comic book.

Well…not exactly…and I quote:

88MPH Studios is currently seeking a penciller to work on an upcoming new GHOSTBUSTERS project.

The phrasing suggests that they've got more than one “iron in the fire”, as it were…not that they're looking to replace anyone. Though I've heard that Mr. Patton had some health issues that forced him off of the book…that's not confirmed, however.

However, as someone who's a BIG fan of DC's Robin, and currently much happier with the art than the writing, I can handle the change. Davis is pretty consistent, and not too far stylistically from BDP.

Criminy…I'm beginning to wonder if there's some sort of curse that strikes GB comic artists…Mark Brooks had other entanglements and couldn't stay with the project, now BDP is apparently gone…

Well, in his defense, Mark's now doing Deadpool/Cable for Marvel through Udon…

I can't really fault him for that.

BDP has left? Dammit, he was a great artist. I just hope the replacement can match that great style.

What is the deal with all these Artists that keep on leaving the revival? That's the second one, isn't it? Weird.

Does the new artist have a website?

Perhaps Phil “Green Arrow” Hester should make a comeback to the realm of GB.

For those of you who don't know, Hester, and fellow inker buddy Ande Parks, has done incredible work on projects such as Kevin Smith's “Clerks: The Lost Scene,” Kevin's “Green Arrow” run, and the “Ultimate Marvel Team-up” where Spidey fights the Hulk.

However, wayyyy back in the day, Hester did the penciling for an issue of RGB titled “Sam Hain Chanted Evening,” in which Sam Hain, ol' Pumpkinhead, escapes from the Containment Unit and tries to create eternal night on Earth. An excellent read, but it does lack in story compared to what we read nowadays.

I nominate Phil Hester and Ande Parks for the new GB series.
