Because generally speaking, eBay is the best bet for those things.

I didn't need a credit card to sign up, however I was using a pay-for email account, I'm not sure if the credit card rule still applies though.

If you dont have a “pay for” email account, Ebay will send you a confirmation code by regular mail. You'll use that code to confirm and validate your subscription.
It's as easy as that, no credit or debit card needed

But when you'll begin buying, you'll see that it is much easier to proceed with a credit card :p
