For curiousity's sake, I just yesterday found a first series Ray Stantz, just the figure itself, no proton pack or Ghost. Payed 3 whole dollars for it, but I'm curious since I notice Real Ghostbusters stuff seems really expensive and sought after (for good reason). Is the figure itself worth anything or is it basically worth what I paid for it since it is out of the box and without accessories.

The figure by itself isn't worth much. Given that it has no accessories or anything, its not like you got ripped off, its just not a diamond in the rough, worth lots of money or anything.

I figured as much, I'm just glad though I found one. There was also a later series Ray Stantz (the one with the blue space suit, not sure the name of the series, which Ray's head spins around) but I only had 5 bucks and the guy didn't have any other way of payment.

Even if I did search for series one Real Ghostbusters, I'd honestly would be too tempted to take it out of the packaging. I'm in the midst of collecting the entire 1989 “Beetlejuice” Toyline and I've found myself buying each figure in double because I couldn't resist taking them out and putting them on display. Considering I've seen series two (of Real Ghostbusters) go for 50 bucks a figure, I can't imagine how long it would take to get all the guys IN DOUBLE without laying down some serious dimp.
