More "Ghostbusters 3" Details Revealed

Dan Aykroyd sat down with The Guardian to talk about the third “Ghostbusters” movie, revealing that he owes the success of the franchise to Bill Murray and his presence as the leading man.

He added that Murray didn't have many demands to return for “Ghostbusters 3,” except that he wanted an assurance that Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), the underwritten black character from the movies, would be elevated to full status.

Regarding the story, Aykroyd said: "There'll be a whole new generation that has to be trained and a leader that you'll all love when you meet her. There'll be lots of cadets, boys and girls who'll be learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension."

The female characters may end up being played by Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku, two actresses Aykroyd previously named as his casting choices.

And this isn't the first time that Aykroyd has mentioned dimension-jumping. Back in February of 2007, he talked about a script he wrote. "I wrote a script called ‘Hell Bent,’ Ghostbusters go to hell basically,“ said Aykroyd. ”The premise is that it's Manhellton. There's Manhattan and ManHELLton. And if you can build an inter-dimensional phase system so that you can go from one dimension to another. We've succeeded doing that and we go to the hell side."

If this is done in the right way, then I'm all for it. But it has to be done right, the premise is one which could fall flat on it's face if they're not careful.

The more Dan talk's about it, the more it sounds likely and the more I get intrigued by the premise. I mean, I'd hope this would be a final film (i don't want another slew of sequels) this needs to round of the characters we know and love and kind of elude to the fact that the work continues after the cast have retired. I have visuals in my head of the perfect way i'd love to see end the “trilogy”, but we'll see…i'm still not entirely convinced that a 3rd is the way to go anymore. But, i'll sure keep my eyes on all this news.

*slap*

No, bad Jeff. Go to your room and think about what you've done. :p

I'd like to see some lesser known actors taking on the roles, that'd be interesting, then they're new to everyone! Heh.

Not much new, except for Winstons role and that the leader will be female. Who could it be?

Just read the original source: Murrays demand was for the video game and not for the GB3 movie so only the “female leader part” is new (previously: “will be led by an individual that you'll all love when you hear who it is, but I'm not going to tell you now.” thread)

Just a wild guess guys. But could it be Sigourney Weaver using her Alien skills.
