NonHardcore fans may just casually see a sign in Gamestop and forget the release day. The real marketing hasn't amped up yet, so it's not that big of a deal. Right now a good amount of people know about the game, but we havent seen much of heavy marketing.

I really hate to say it, but the game was going to be trounced in sales this fall. I know thats not a very popular outlook, but any sort of sales it would/will make this fall is going to be overshadowed. We're talking about games expecting to have record breaking sales and we want the Ghostbusters Game to go head on with that?

It's going to do well one way or the other, but I think it stands a better chance not in October/Nov/December/Jan. Pick and choose any of the other months and it's going to be able to escape the shadow of the heavy hitters this holiday season.

Having said all that, I would have rather the game come out sooner than later. I'm in the boat with you guys, just trying to explain basic marketing strategies.

Game Informer did an impressive spread and cover story a few months back.

All the major gaming sites having been jumping up and down for it, calling it one of the most looked forward to games of the year.

And then there's the Christmas retail season.

Not to mention it's been worked on for over two years now.

If there's a good time, it's now. I don't see how sitting on a finished game for another 9-10 months is really going to benefit the game. People who want it will buy it. What's the difference between now and then? Nothing. There's no real reason to sit on the game for nearly a year and let the code collect dust. It's silly.

Fans here don't matter though.

See thats the thing, we are all pretty much going to buy the game. They aren't worried about us. They need to reach the crowd that will buy Gears of War 2 and get them to buy their game as well.

These guys are running a company, not a fan give out non-profit group.

Let me put it this way, are you going to buy the game when it does come out even if that is a year from now?

but that negates your earlier point about saturation, because fans are the only people who will buy the comics/figures/cartoons. ‘Ordinary’ games buyers may easily not even know they exist! in a wider market - say in your HMVs or whatever, the videogame is really all there is. By delaying it until the anniversary and releasing the blu-ray at the same time and making a fuss about the 25 years thing, that's actually more saturation to the casual shopper! bonkers!

But, y'know, i'm only grumpy because i would really like to play it and i don't want to have to wait when it was so close. i think that's the bottom line - people will calm down when there's official word one way or another, but with it up in the air it still might be out in October. Argh! The not-knowing!
