It's been almost 2 years since testing the game and well over a year since it's release, so I thought it would be ok to talk about my time as a tester.
First off I tested the game in May to early June during 08, when they were still shooting for the Halloween launch. It was a Alpha version, but even at that point you could see the magic and love that went into the game. So really what they did was tell me to play a level, and then take a Question sheet on what I liked and didn't like about the level.
First thing I wanted to point out was that in my first few levels of the game, I was playing with…. The original PKE meter and the Ecto Goggles, they had the little radar in it, and it basically looked like what Ray had on, during that quick shot in the ball room. The PKE meter was based on the movie model and looked absolutely stunning, and really just brought you into the Ghostbusters feel.
Next, and I know many people probably want to know this, I did play the Parade level. In the early version of the game, you went through the sewers, and then came out in the middle of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Ghostbusters would get on a float, with Ecto 1 following behind, and you would use the Super Slammer as you navigated through the parade on a parade float ( Mind you not a balloon, but basically a small platform on the street ). The ghosts I really remember from it was a set of “Marching Band” ghosts.
Anyway after a bit of busting, the Ghostbusters were forced to get off the float and make their way around on foot. Luckily enough… Ray's book store was near by. You went inside, and while there were no books in this version yet, there were plenty of Bookcases, AND the painting from the end of Ghostbusters 2, which Venkman remarks about Ray “keeping that”. I remember that clearly, as both the line was great, and it was a shocker seeing the painting of from the ending of the movie.
So you exit out the back of Ray's bookstore, make your way to the roof top, bust some more ghosts there, and then make your way over and down to where the boss is for the Parade. I was not able to play against the boss as it wasn't finished, but personally I loved the level. I loved the use of the Super Slammer, and I loved the touch with Ray's Occult.
Anyway most of the game remained the same other than really those two things. It sure made my monday's fun, and it was like I was in heaven when I first sat down and the guy said “Alright you will be the first one outside of the studio to play this game”.
