I have a few theories.

1. It is a Beta Build which means some mistakes are still present.

2. Nobody really cares anymore and just want the game to come out quicker

3. Perhaps, they were gripping that part to make sure they don't bang it into anything and break it. Like what was seen in Casper.
My PO is, that if a few things (continuity wise) slip through the cracks, it really won't be that big of a deal, because what matters most is, mechanics/visual quality, if it plays/looks great, then anything else will just be trivial.(*peter)

The only real thing that bothers me though is, the wrangle beam (watch the Atari walkthrough vid, and you'll see what I mean), it's way too wild! I think it would be nice if it were, “tightened” up a bit. But that's just me.(*peter)

I seem to remember hearing someone somewhere make mention that there is a purchasable upgrade that does that very same thing.

As many have said, it is supposed to be like that. The proton beams were wild and unpredictable. Possibly to the point that it is almost impossible to catch something without destroying something in the process.

I don't know what you mean by “way to wild” as they always hit the mark you are pointing at. Besides, it does upgrade to be more accurate.

I can just imagine it being intentional to offer another chance for ether Ray or Peter to train the rookie while doing it in a funny, belittling way.

“Newbie! Unless you don't want to touch anything ever again with that hand, I suggest you don't grip so close to where the streams of neutrino energy fire out!”

Yeah, I know. I was just thinking that it was weired that of all the “mistakes” that people were pointing out in other vids/pics, that this one seemed stand out, but nobody decided to say anything about it. But that is a very good point.(*peter)

It was pointed out by just a couple of posts before yours.

One thing fans need to get comfortable with is inconsistencies such as what was pointed out above.

Things happen like this when you have a project that's worked on across many many people. Sometimes communication doesn't work very well, sometimes it does.

Heck, just look at the movies. How many different configurations did they have for their gear? How many different places did they hook the wand to? How many different switches did they turn on the pack with? How many different times were the flight hoses not connected to anything?

Fact is, there was no ‘bible’ written down before the movie was made, and all we have to go by are what we see on film.

thats right!
thats why my proton pack isnt 100% true to the movie!
no proton pack will ever be true to the movie so why should the game-version!?!
the only thing that matters is that they are holding it at the grips and not at the hose or something!
