Is this based on the films or cartoon, and is it a better read than The Other Side? Could someone post some pics of the interior art?
There are a couple different artists in the book. Here's a scan from the first chapter along with a summary and review (gotta get around to reviewing the other chapters one of these days): theectocooler.blogspot.com/…/ghost-busted-chapter-1-theater-of-pain.html
The book is very reminiscent of The Real Ghostbusters in atmosphere and approach; it's PG-rated but clever and fun. Yamashita and the other writers really nail the characters personalities and there are a ton of genuinely funny wisecracks.
The story is broken up into five chapters that can be taken as individual stories but each work toward a larger overall arc that is resolved in the end (my personal favorite approach to story-telling).
The highlight is Egon's chapter, which is actually rather touching (though the last chapter in the book sort of undoes that fact, but whatever).
The art…well, that's the only thing I had some trouble with. This isn't “real” manga (as in, stuff from Japan), but “weeaboo” manga (as in, otaku asian-wannabes drawing in “manga style” cuz it's “hip”). There are a few different artists in the book and some are better than others. I wouldn't qualify any of them as horrible, but it's not a style I'm personally fond of. Your mileage may very.
I highly recommend the book. Leagues head of IDW's stuff and a lot of fun.
