Ghostbusters Back in Business
Office scribes set to script for original cast.
by Jim Vejvoda

September 4, 2008 - After a two decade absence, the Ghostbusters finally appear ready to return to the silver screen. Columbia Pictures has tapped the Emmy-nominated writing team of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (co-executive producers of The Office) to pen the screenplay.

What's more, Variety reports that the new script will be “for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.” (There were rumors years ago that Ghostbusters 3 would revolve around a younger set of GBs instead.)

The trade adds, “No deals will be made with the original cast until the script is ready, but the gross percentage will certainly be an issue. Sony has a standing policy not to allow more than 25% of first dollar gross out the door.”

Harold Ramis recently directed the Sony comedy Year Zero, which was scripted by Eisenberg and Stupnitsky.

If.

And I stress the MASSIVE IF.

IF this is true. I'm shocked it's not going to be an Aykroyd/Ramis script.

If it turns out to be true I'll be shocked too.

The whole problem with the news is that even if it is true (though I have no doubt it is myself) there really is no garauntee that the movie will be made. I mean they'd still have to go through the negotiations with the cast once the script is done. Of course I don't see anyone but Bill causing any trouble in that respect, but still, that's a large enough road block as it is.

Here's something interesting from GetTheBigPicture.net (never been there).

“Here's where it gets interesting: Ramis is also directing Ghostbusters 3, at least in theory, but he hated the outline Stupnisky and Eisenberg came up with for that project (without his prior knowledge).

The studio, however, loved their ideas and not Ramis', which are now apparently dancing side-by-side with the good ideas in a new version of the script.”

I would think the reason they are bringing in new writers, would be becuase so much of the original GB3 script was being used in the game and the possible sequels to it. But after being let down so many times, I am seriously taking this with a grain of salt. Lets just hope the Ghostbusters merchandise blitz with in the next 6 months does well. The amount of dollars Sony gets out of the Manga, Comic Book, Game, etc will probably play a big factor into another movie.

Are we paying for some transgression we comitted against them? Is one of their departments devoted to trying to kill us by giving us a headache that makes our heads explode?

I'm locking this. No more Ghostbusters 3 talk!

I worry for the threads safety after reading this response from Kingpin over at GBfans. (for Kingpin- )

Well, we can do that, but there are plenty of other places that are reporting on the news and besides, it started with Variety I believe. Why be driven to insanity by just one source?
