Anyone wanna take bets on how many times someone will try to post this news thinking they're the first over the next couple of days?

This caught me off guard! Okay, this is of course not confirmation in any way shape or form that Ghostbusters III will be made however it does show that Sony/Columbia Pictures does have an interest in making it. They know how popular Ghostbusters, they understand the love people have for nostalgia and they know that the video game will be a smash hit. They know that if ever there was a time to make Ghostbusters III happen it's now!

What do I think? I think that it's going to be extremely difficult to make a good movie out of this. Why? The script! I don't think many people will disagree with me when I say that the most important thing for any movie is the quality of the script. Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg are two young writers who are new to Hollywood and have done some decent work so far with The Office and a few other things but it's just not enough to judge them on. Isn't it a little risky handing them the job of writing the script for Ghostbusters III? I'm not saying they can't do it. Perhaps they can.

Perhaps they can write a good movie, but can they write a good Ghostbusters sequel? Can they write a script which is has an interesting and original story? Can they write dialogue which is filled which long techniuacl jargon and write funny memorable lines? The kind of lines you want to quote.

Personally I think it's going to be very difficult to come up with something original and fresh which feels truly new. A movie which doesn't feel like a rehash of the first or second movie. A movie which doesn't feel like we've seen it before in another Hollywood movie. I think that is the challenge for Ghostbusters III. Originality. It cannot and should not make the same mistake that Ghostbusters II made which basically offered precious little in terms of surprises or originality. If whoever writes it can come up with a strong storyline which is unpredictable and original then I think that will be a good movie.

But why Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg? Why not Aykroyd and Ramis? Well, when you really think about it why should Sony allow Akroyd and ramis to write it? The script for Ghostbusters II which was written by Ramis and Aykroyd was poor and in my opinion the premise for Aykroyds Hellbent script sounded like something I'd seen before and didn't really exite me or interest me. I really don't know who should write it. I think that if Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg do write it they must allow free reigns for the actors with their dialogue. They need to give the strong, clear, well thought out storyline but they must remain flexible with the dialogue on the page. If Murray wants to ad lib like he usually does and comes out with something hilarious on the day of shooting then put it in there. If Ramis and Aykroyd think of something ingenious then add it.

To me this is just another one of those stories which comes along every once in a while. while I have my fingers crossed I've always said that I only want Ghostbusters III made if it's going to be significantly better than Ghostbusters II and be a truly worthy sequel.

I honestly dont know what to feel right now. I mean, ive been burned so many times with so called ghostbusters 3 rumors and internet reports and esp now, it being the eve of the 25th anaversary and the game hopefully just around the corner, and the new comics and dvds and all that, part of me is dying to get super excited at not only the possable aspect of a new game, but a possable movie….But i just dont want to get my hopes up for nothing YET AGAIN.

Its hard for me, even to except the fact that the game is in all likehood delayed. I mean, to me that really hurts alot cause i was so looking foward to it, and i still am, but now i have to, through no fault of my own, wait god knows how much more longer, to play the dam thing.

I dont even want to think about a new movie, and get my hopes up all for nothing only to be disapointed AGAIN!

Truthfully, once i see some set pictures, or promo's or a trailer…then ill get stoked. I wont get excited now, cause i dont think i could take another ghostbusters related disapointment.

Am i happy about this rumor?…im happy about the ever so slim possability that it might come true but its like, placing your hand on a fire. Do it enough times, feel the pain of that burn, and u learn not to do it, and right now, my hand REALLY wants to go touch that fire…but im not going to intill i have solid info telling me THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!

And based on my own experence, such good things NEVER happen!

One of the big questions is, who would direct it? You know what? My gut feeling tells me that if this thing goes ahead they'll want someone other than Reitman to do it. It's just a gut feeling based on his lack of success in recent years, (well…the last 20 or so years to be honest). Personally i don't think that he's a bad director. On the contrary every film I've seen him direct has had good direction. He's done a good job in basically all of his films. It's not that he's a bad director. I think it's just that he's chosen films which havn't really caught the publics imagination or interest. I think he could direct Ghostbusters III perfectly well and I don't think it would feel like a true sequel to the first two with anyone else at the helm but Sony just may look at how much money his recent films have made and think differently.
