Nevermind the “Slimer” part, as that was just kept for completeness…

I'd kill for some Ecto cooler right now… Does a cereal made by Purina kinda gross anyone else out?

I miss this cereal so much! So many good memories of Saturday mornings and fruity marshmallow goodness…But I don't think anything even remotely similar has been released since!

Sigh…

Not really, they were heavily into kids' breakfast cereals throughout the ‘80s and ’90s. They didn't use the Purina moniker, either–just Ralston.

Let's see, what else did they do? Oh yes…

Batman '89–I still have the free bank that came with it!
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures–the animated series, that is. I used to have the phone-booth-shaped cassette box that came with the cereal, but I'm afraid that's long since gone.
Batman Returns–this was more like chocolatey Chex with bat-shaped marshmallows, whereas the first cereal was more like bat-shaped Cap'n Crunch.

EDIT: Does anyone have any information on the fruit snacks? I recall seeing them somewhere in the distant past, and I want to be sure I'm not going mad. As a matter of fact, that's where I discovered the name of the Ghostbusting equipment–the “Pronto Pack,” as I'd misread it at 5 or 6 years old.

They also made Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cereal. Pretty much any cereal based on a kid movie or show would be made by Ralston. I miss those days lol.

I'm pretty sure I still have two at home somewhere.

One of our local antique stores here has the 1st Batman movie cereal with the bank or whatever that came with it.

There's an interview with Keanu Reeves somewhere where he talks about the cereal and mentions the Purina/dog food connection. I'm pretty sure it's on the bonus DVD in the Bill & Ted box set (a pretty obvious choice for a first guess) but I can't be sure. At the very least I know it was a vintage interview because they certainly didn't land Reeves for new interviews on that DVD.

Speaking of horrible and unhealthy TV tie-in cereals of the 80's, Paul Reubens tells a story about how there was a Pee-wee's Playhouse cereal in the works, he actually oversaw all aspects of the Pee-wee operation back in the day and actually cared enough about healthy eating habits in children that he had a cereal developed that was sweetened with fruit juice. Per Reubens it tasted like another major cereal (I think it was Fruit Loops or Kix) but it bombed in the testing phase. The kids of the 80's undoubtedly wanted something with heaps of sugar.

Personally, when it comes to cereal I don't like it sweet. I'll eat Wheaties, Special K or Rice Krispies and I don't add sugar like most people do. I can stand to eat sweeter stuff like Frosted Flakes but it's definitely not my preference. That goes all the way back to when I was a kid but that didn't stop me from totally falling for all this TV cartoon tie-in crap. I'd beg my mom for whatever cereal was tied into the cartoon I was into at the time, get the toy and then never eat the cereal.

It's a new one on me. I didn't much care for the 'Turtles back then.

I remember the Turtles cereal. I still have the cereal bowl that came with the box. Don't remember what it tasted like tho.
