I'm glad there's some stages set in the human world, with familiar surroundings, however it looks as if some are set in the netherworld. Whilst an interesting idea, I hope that portion of things doesn't take over the game too much. It's probably easier to create unfamiliar environments than familiar ones, and as the programming/design team you probably receive less criticism for the unfamiliar stages for the pure fact nobody's seen anything like them before. However it'd be nice to keep a decent portion of it close to home, New York, and familiar areas like that.
absolutely - I think it is crucial to represent the everyday world in order for it to feel right. Sure, the main locations used in the original movie did have a very ornate feel, but there were also the streets to and from these places - y'know? The montage sequences in both films, and their equivelant ‘ghosts go crazy’ sequences both played on the dichotomy between the fantastic and the everyday brilliantly.
So yeah, all out on the fantasy elements, but my fingers are crossed they are rooted in a certain ‘reality’. Remember the commentary on the Ghostbusters DVD? Ivan Reitman is adamant that this element is what made the film really gel in its execution - would a stay puft marshmallow man be anywhere near as amusing or eye-catching if it wasn't ambling up an un-stylised central park west?
