…..but we can't get a Ghostbusters 3?! I don't get it. Why is Bill Murray so obsessed about his merits as an actor? He seems to have completely forgotten his roots. Those big name comedic actors of the ‘80’s (Murray,Ackroyd, Martin, etc..) all or most still work in movies and all have had serious roles as well. Yet Murray doesn't seem to make comedies anymore. And besides his oscar nod, all his films haven't been box office smashes. Yet he's so much against a GB3. Yet we're getting these sequels from past franchises making a comeback. Some we want some we don't want. But look what Murray is passing up. If everyone thinks its about money, your dead wrong. With the way media is today,
Murray is passing up, licences. Can you imagine detailed GB toys?
What about a video game? All these other licensing options all being passed up. Books, cards, etc. Sony must be so upset at the chances of not making this film. All the rest of the cast and Reitman and Sony wouldn't mind a GB3, but Murray has been so up about it. Yet they've all stated that they'd like to work together again. Last I heard about GB3, Ernie Hudson said that Murray hates sequels. Why doesn't Sony offer Murray a chance like what was done to Sean Connery for Diamonds are Forever, and offer him future serious roles if he'd do or allow a GB3 to be made? I mean GB as a franchise is dead in terms of its future use. Just the comics and the odd toy/die cast/book license. And maybe some other future cartoon (lets face it the cartoons are infinite possibilities). Yet he or Sony allows these things to be made but no new movie.
It was mentioned in Wizard: The Comics Magazine that 88MPH had to pay Sony $10,000 for the GB comic licence. You wonder if that money goes to Sony only, or do they recieve it and disperse it to the 5 rights owners (Ackroyd, Ramis, Murray, Reitman, Sony itself)? If I'm correct in my assumption, that means each party had to have gotten $2,000. You wonder how much was paid for the toys and book novels licences. All this money being passed up and no GB3. I just don't get it. If I see a Men In Black 3, I'll keel over. They can blow all the money in the world on that and probably could make a GB3 for a lot less (although in the initial GB3 talks money was a problem, the actors/talent owners may have been asking too much in the contract talks). Ramis and Reitman kept saying making the right deal was also a problem. There had to be money for all the parties. And also Ramis and Ackroyd were also knocking down their price just to get Murray to do it at that time he had interest. I don't get why they all ask so much, when all haven't had box office success in quite awhile (except Ramis with Analyze This). What do you all think?
