I'd like an option in my personal settings that allows me view/hide avatars. Personally, I prefer to simply read the comments of others without scrolling through line after line of graphics. Some folks enjoy avatars; I just don't like them. I think they're visually distracting, eat up precious screen space, and cause threads to scroll endlessly – sprawling onto multiple pages unecessarily. An option to hide them would suit me just fine.

Certainly. But I'd still like the option of hiding them.
A good compromise would be simply implementing some kind of mechanism to hide signature pictures. Those things drive me batty, too.

I don't have one – because I don't prefer them. The option to hide them would be a per user setting, so the folks who like avatars could still see them, and kids like me could opt out of them.
Irrelevant pictures in posts can more than double the size of each message. I think this is a bit ridiculous.

I dont even know if there is such a patch for this message board, and even if there is I wouldent hold my breath, you seem to be in a very small minority.

Such is usually the case.
I post frequently on the Trillian message boards, where the option to show/hide avatars and signature images exists. That's where I got the idea.

First…people who link to other sites for their avatars seem to be able to break the 150 pixel limit…I think thats right anyway
and…I'd only be in favor of this option for situations when people create avatars that take ages to load on 56k (usually animated) and make the threads way to slow

well then that problem has been recently fixed because I have seen avatars before that were much bigger than mine
