http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1491229533
i popped in my ghostbusters dvd when i saw this, and zoomed in on the plate on the movie to compare (i have toooo much time on my hands). everything looked the same, EXCEPT!!… the “O” in new york. on the ebay plate, it is a round “O”, but on the movie plate, it isn't round, but it's like the “O” on ecto, with flat sides. followin me? i was gonna bid on it, but i'm not so sure now. any comments?

If you read the auction it says it is an exact replica, made from the same mold as the “originals”. It is not a film used prop.

Yep,

Louie is right. Even tho its not a used one, I'm getting it from the guy. I'm also getting the baloons used in GB2 and the no-ghost logo for the Ecto-1A. I already have the no-ghost logo for the Ecto-1 thosmile Soon, I am getting a fiberglassed pack shell “original” movie pack from ghostbusters!

i read the auction, i know it's a replica, but it didn't come from the molds from the movie. it's obvious. anyone that pays over $50 for it, email me and i'll sell ya one for $20 made of metal. zech, the balloons weren't used in the movie. the guy told me himself. maybe they did come from the company that made them, i'm not sure. what i am sure of is that the ecto-1 plate did not come from the production of ghostbusters, it didn't come from the mold that was used to make that plates in ghostbusters. fire up your dvd players and compare. it's obvious. they're different. if it came from the same mold, the letters would be the same SHAPE. i'm a trusting person, but not that trusting. i've been ripped off before. be careful on what you bid for. sorry for the long post, but i don't want any of you guys getting ripped. in conclusion, this guy is saying the ecto 1 plate came from the original mold, i don't think it did. compare it. see for yourself before dishing out your hard earned money.

Theres no way that thats the original plate. it looks like it was scanned then visually enhanced to look like the real thing. it contains no metalic reflection over it (if it was made out of plastic and if it was he coulve at least sprayed it with a non gloss metallic paint.), and yes, the “O” is really screwed up. my bet is that the guy wanted to make a quick buck and created a mold himself and placed a sheet of plastic over it then put into a vaccumm press giving what you see now. not a bad job though! either way its a total fake, it didnt even get near sony. there were only 2 original plates to begin with and there still on the cars on the sony studios lot.
im gone.

Actually, the “O” is correct! The whole “New York” isn't in correct porportion to the actual one. However, I have talked to the seller before and he isn't one that would sell bad items.

Look at his other auctions, GB2 Logo, GB2 Balloons, GB2 Magazine Cover!

ectoman…the “O” (in new york) is messed up. compare the plate in the movie to the plate in the auction. i emailed the guy about the balloons, and he told me they weren't in the movie. the magazine cover is a fake, “taken from the original art” is what is says in the auction. not sure about the ecto 1a sticker, back, do you know how big the sign is on the real 1a? i think on the auction it says like 18 inches tall.

No, the “o” is correct. The whole “New York” is not. If the “New York” were stretched properly, then the O would be right.

I took a picture of his license plate, and pasted it over a picture of a real one. Then changed the opacity, to see the differences.
