How could I have been so stupid!? Look at this quote:

“Cinescape Online reported in 1998 that the film is rumored to follow Dr. Raymond Stantz (Aykroyd) and Dr. Egon Spengler (Ramis) as they cope with Dr. Peter Venkman's (Bill Murray) departure with Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver), plus their attempt to stay employed while fighting a new otherworldly entity, possibly Hades, the Greek god of the underworld.”

So does that mean her too? What is this, The Ghostbusters edition of Celebrity Death Match?

Doc, I am pretty sure that means Venkman left the Busting biz to go marry Dana and have a life. Neither one of them are dead according to that rumor.

WOW! :0 :O

It took him THAT long to finally marry her, and “depart”? There are somethings in this world that go way beyond human understanding. Somethings that most people just don't want to know about. That is where, *Pauses* uh, nevermind. . .

Murray's comments about dying and coming back as a ghost were made when asked if he'd do a second movie. I think any reference to Peter as being dead or a ghost is probably either an inside joke from Aykroyd or an initial attempt to sell the movie with minimal involvement from Murray.

doc- that rumor was before aykroyd wrote the first draft of GB3 (1999) that was reviewed by stax. according to that review, we never even hear venkman's name until near the end, where it is something totally different that what we've seen him before. also, according to the stax review, dana is said not to be mentioned not once in the script.
