so does that means that isntead of firing a continous stream of energy, that it fires a warp speed capable slug propelled forward by a blue-ish hue energy field that surrounds it?

Actually, this is either going to make you all laugh or throw up:

Back in Slimer!#3 by Now Comics, Professor Dweeb uses a goofy orange backpack and laser gun to chase Slimer; it gets hit by lightning and zaps Slimer and Dweeb into a television, leading to a stream of parody gags. It was actually fairly good…for a Slimer! story, which really doesn't say much.

Professor Dweeb called his goofy invention his Photon Pack.
