Let my hair grow out to about an inch (probably more) and used a crap load of Gel and it took about 6 minutes of brushing it backward 'n stuff :S

Uhm…You grow out your hair (let's say you spiked it, and it's too long to spike anymore) wait about a month after that, your hair should be at least 1-2 inches long. Then, you take some LA Looks Gel, Hold 7 (or more, the higher the heavier) you get whatever brush you think is right, put the Gel in yer hand, slick it back as much as possible with yer hand, then do the rest with the Brush…that's all I can say.
