as stupid as it sounds i always thought it was some sort of vent system or vent from their packs XD; but to be honest i have no idea and ive been wondering that myself

This question has been asked many times and there's no real answer for it.

Especially since there are several times throughout the movies where the tube is seen flopping about or just wrapped around one of the guys belts.

There really isn't a general answer, as far as I know.

i may have an answer to this now, maybe just maybe that strange yellow tube vents farts to the packs as a backup power supply the packs may actually be unlicensed nuclear flatulence excelerators? thats why when they fire the packs the look like there in pain because it stinks from hours and days of built up farts? lol

sorry i just came up with that and it kinda sounds cool that tube must have a prupose so i guess its that (*peter)

Well the tube isn't connected to the pack, just the belt. It could be just getting fresh air in those pants while they run or sweat alot.
