Problems with Accents

I was posting a really big message yesterday, and I tried to use the french phrase “a la”. Of course, when I pressed alt+0224 (or whatever the number was, the result was similar to pressing my browswer's “back” button. Oh, the frustration! I pressed “forward”, only to find that all of my typing was gone! I tried several times, but it seems like many of the accents don't work. Could someone shed a little light on my problem?

I hate doing this, it's unprofessional and a cheap way to make a post, but…

why not just type “a la” rather than hit more than you actually have to type? i think no response answered your question more than you think.

Good point… I'm just really picky when it comes to grammar.

Hmmm…testing it on this Wintel machine produces the back button effect. But it works perfectly fine on my Mac.

That's because in the Windows operating system pressing alt and almost any key will cause it to back in IE. Where the Mac operating system Microsoft didn't or couldn't use it in the Mac IE version. Besides who uses IE on the Mac platform anyway when you have better browsers like Mozilla.

Actually, I use Apple's own Safari. Also on the Mac, you use the option key and press the letter you want to get the proper accent. For example, an accented “e” you would push option + e, then e again.

á la peanut butter sandwiches.

Writing in Word or any other word processing program, and then pasting over works (which is something I often do, just so it doesn't get lost in a crash).

However, for the most part, I've just learned to type without the accents. It sucks, but (shrug).

Have you tried to see if this bug happens in Netscape as well?
