I really don't know those fan fictions you tell me about. The last time I was online here was years ago, and I never read fan fictions ^^
But the idea for this grew in my head when I saw Final Fantasy - The Spirits within… anyone knows it?
Bad for me that someone had an idea like this before and wrote about it…

A “Proton Missle” doesn't seem a huge stretch… it could be made using a similar technology to Egon's “Ghost Bomb”, or the ‘missile’ would be a purely energy-based weapon… like the sigh… “Magic Missile”.

I'll still continue working on my idea, I'll also talk with the persons from the other fan fictions if it's ok and to avoid similarities … so hopefully this will be OK 
- Proton Missile
Was just a first idea, I thought about something like a rocket, loaded with a special “proton charge” that detonates in a huge, protonic explosion that completely neutrolises everything up to class 5 that's in a radius of a few meters…
- The Future
I plan to do the most dark and negative future I can imagine, like in Final Fantasy Movie, even more darker… completely destroyed world, everything dead, only the cities, protected by shields and Squads, which are also searhing the destroyed buildings outisde of the protected cities for stuff, maybe survivors and maybe to get a first strike on some Ghosts…
Still have to develop more ideas ^^

query, to all similar storylines - if the gozer plan didn't work out and in fact made the problem much worse, why would any remaining ghostbusters be allowed to continue a business at all. Within the film's reality the were ordered a cease and desist FOR saving the world.
Maybe something you would need to keep in mind to maintain a reality - how do they justify their continued existence to the powers that be?

I'd think in a reality where Gozer wasn't stopped, the government would have a lot more to worry about than suing the Ghostbusters…
