Proton Pack Construction: real vs resin parts

Bitten by the GB bug once again I've been considering building my own replica. I've seen some great ones on eBay but am not willing to shell out $2,000+ for one. And I think it would be more meaningful it I built it with my own two hands.

I want to do it right but also want to be wise about how much I want to spend. I guess cutting cost maybe means quality and accuracy suffering too. For example I found a website that sells a combination of real and resin copy parts. http://www.multimediamayhem.net/

On the plus side they are inexpensive and come in good quantities. So, I'd like to hear from anyone who has build their own GB proton pack complete or partial. Share you experience, what did you use and what are your thoughts on real vs resin copy parts.

Thanks :-)

Definitely build it yourself. It will make you alot more careful with it if nothing else and you'll be better prepared to repair it when it's necessary.

Get real parts if you can, just because they're real. The average joe will never know but you will and you'll be proud of it, but remember you can also always upgrade later. Like with restoring a classic car, it's never really done.

I want to do this, but I am not good at building things. Well ok, I suck. I hope you get yours built and it is goes good, maybe before halloween?

Don't worry, I suck too, haha :-) So, if I can do this you can do this

Probably not for Halloween ‘09 maybe Halloween 2010

I’ve seen some good packs and the builders took their time. This is something I don't want to rush and turn out sloppy.

As in the gun box itself? There are several resin bodies sold out there including multimedias. You can make your own out of a variety of materials but get a resin one for durability and ease of preparation.

I don't have the brains or the talent to make my own proton pack. I've said it a couple times but I wish some company would step up and make replica proton packs or at least get something out there that's better then an inflatable piece of garbage. I made my own GB costume this year which looks great but it sucks there's not a decent looking proton pack out on the market to go along with it.

Master Replicas had plans to put out replica Packs(as well as other props), but all plans were eventually dropped, unfortunately. They wouldn't have been cheap(probably upwards of $1,000), but even still, I was a little tempted to perhaps buy one.

If there's anything I'd like to be for a Halloween party or something, it'd be a Ghostbuster. That's sort of been a dream of mine since childhood. But I'm a stickler for detail, so I'd only attempt to pull off the whole get-up if I knew I could make it closely accurate to the films.

Who knows, I might just consider making a project of putting together a great Pack and uniform for next year.

Yea I thought I heard something about Master Replicas planning to put out replica packs, but like you said, apparently they cancelled the plans. Although if GB3 gets made maybe they'll reconsider. I'm not saying they need to make ones that have all the bells and whistles, but it would be nice to get something that's a little more durable and screen accurate then the inflatable one. If fans are going out and buying all the parts to make replica packs there must be a market out there to actually make and sell them to. Hopefully for a little then $1,000 bucks too.
