I don't understand it. The PS3 is quite capable of producing amazing graphics and this is probably the best looking game coming out this fall:

Look at the textures on the green wall:

Hell, just look at the textures in KZ2. You can zoom in and they don't blur.

Your first 4 pics are cut scenes… they'd look like that on PS1

killzone sure, its an awesome game and PS3 exclusive

every single cross platform game looks better and loads better on 360. Common knowledge? its only slight differences usually, but they are still there

Both Uncharted games render in-game cut scenes… No pre-rendered scenes.

you can alter settings for pre rendered in-game cut scenes.

our ps3 pre rendered cut scenes are from the PC.

And yes, exclusive games will always look better than cross platform games. There are exceptions, like Fight Night, but you have to ask yourself what Fight Night really does, and it does nothing more than render only 2 characters in a single environment.

Also, read what I posted.

I said the version they reviewed was a pre release build that DID have sized down textures, but most all of them were sized back up for release.

plus, he was comparing the 360 version against a 720p resolution version.

Again the “made for PS3” games can because those programming for it concentrate SOLELY on how to program for the PS3. If you are a company and need to cross platform the PS3 is hard as hell to program for, Valve said this. The PS3 can do it, but really it is much harder to do the same thing with the code.

What? Are you not familiar with Naughty Dog's work? The graphics in the cutscenes and gameplay scenes are the same. The only difference is the lighting looks a bit better in the cutscenes. The models, displacement maps, reflections, etc. are all there in the same detail

Then why is it that people who already have the PS3 version are confirming what was already mentioned in the article I posted?

This is not “confirmed”.

That video may not have even been the final PS3 version. I Will see if I'm allowed to post clarification.

Mark's exact words from an email sent out this morning:

I triple checked this – the package file sizes are IDENTICAL on the 360 and PS3. That means the game art is all the same size, except for the UI art.

The problem is how the guy is capturing it. When you capture lower resolution on the PS3, it actually renders it at lower resolution. So he was comparing a 1280x720 render on the 360 with a 720x480 render on the PS3…not surprising he has those results.

Now, don't get me wrong, as I was talking about before with the mip levels, there might be hardware issues that people are seeing. Things like that stand out more when you have a version on another console to compare it too.

One of our guys had some banding on his tv, and it was due to his tv's display method.

I'll quote what I wrote on GBFans.

so u are talking about LOD objects, right? (Level Of Detail)

no, but it's along the same principle.

mip maps are essentially lods, but for textures instead.
