I know that GBI came out in 1984 and GBII came out in 1989. It's been a while since I've seen GBII in its entirety, but is there anything to suggest in the movie that 5 years have passed?

If the events of GBI took place in 1984, what's to suggest that the events of GBII didn't take place in 1985 or 1986?

If I'm not missing anything to suggest it's 1988 or 1989 in GBII, it really would have changed things in the GB universe. Maybe the videogame doesn't have to be 1991 NY, but could have been late 80's NY.

Man, you're right. I just looked it up on youtube. I completely forgot about the 5 years later and the scene with the bike and stroller.

They could always change that to “3 years later” if they wanted I guess.

Remember, also, the psychic Venkman was talking to on the “World of the Psychic” (played by the guy that played a general in the Godzilla movie) said the end of the world would be the stroke of midnite Dec. 31st, 1989 and Pete razzes him because the book just came out and, if true (and it almost was), would not be able to enjoy any royalties from the book.

They could always change that to “3 years later” if they wanted I guess.

They took the same 5 years between both movies premiers to take a parameter of time in the story of the movies. If GB2 was released on 1987, they could say: “3 years later”.
