Question about Kenner's toyline.

Here's something I have been wondering about for quite some time.
Apart from Stay Puft and Slimer, Kenner never did any toys of the ghosts from the cartoon or movies. Anyone know why?

they didn't do any from the movies due to licensing rights…

as to why they didn't do any show accurate ghouls…. except Sam Hain & the Bogeyman none of them were really recurring ghouls and therefore didn't warrant a toy

that's my guess anyway

My guess would be contractual obligations. If somebody wants to track down somebody who was there back in the day, they could probably tell you with more authority than I, but that's what I figure.

It makes sense: the contracts were for the main characters only, plus Slimer and Stay-Puft. Ecto-2 was a co-design between DIC and Kenner (at least that's what's been said elsewhere). More than that, I think the main contract was for the original “promo pilot” given the characters more closely resemble those designs, and the proton packs are identical to the toys. Janine and Louis were probably “grandfathered” in when it became clear they were important enough to warrant toys of their own. Additionally, I've noticed that, save above examples, nothing created on the show lead to a toy version and vice versa. I'd say the contract had a provision that allowed Kenner to design original material, provided it fit plausibly within the “universe.”

IMHO, of course.

I've read that Winston's Chomper Ghost is supposed to be the bird ghost from Mrs. Roger's neighborhood. That's the only one though.

it really doesn't look like Watt's bird….

I'd hazard a guess and say that nobody at Kenner really felt the need to do things that were seen on the show–in other words, the designers at the company may have felt that RGB's very nature gave them carte blanche to let their imaginations run wild and design some REALLY fanciful beasts.

I can just imagine someone in the design-room saying to themselves: “Hmm, let's see how they'll pull off *this* one!”

Maybe they wanted to try creating their own ghosts and characters for the line-up for creative reasons?

Um…yes, that's pretty much what I just said.

Well, great minds think alike and all that.
