Question about their first job (catching Slimer).

I'm a big fan of Ghostbusters but it kind of occured to me that it probably would've been much cheaper for the Hotel to have Slimer there than what it cost them to repair all the damage the ghostbusters did to the hotel. Maybe I'm looking to far into it but it does seem like they did more damage than Slimer ever would have. Just a thought.

acouple thousand to that hotel is nothing, they make thousands every night. And who knows they probably have some type of insurance for damages?

Absolutely not.

Slimer would cost them thousands in money lost by people not staying there and their reputation would continue to plummet as a haunted hotel. Their insurance may not have covered the damages, but they could have easily repaired even thousands of dollars of damages and continued to have a great reputation, and not lose future money by having a pest problem.

I guess that's a good point.

Well they could always have switched gears to promote themselves as a haunted hotel. There's tons that thrive on that gimmick.

Don't forget the the Ghostbusters were relative unknowns when the hotel called them. They had no idea that they'd turn up with nuclear accelerators and blast everything on sight. Had they known this I don't think they'd have called them. I think they'd have propbably tried to sort the problem out some other way. The fact that the Ghostbusters did more damage than the actual ghost makes the scene it both funny and ironic.

Yes, but the Ghostbusters only did damage that one day. Slimer “haunted” the hotel and did damage everyday so in the long run he would have done more damage. Eventually people would talk, say the hotel is haunted and stop coming forcing them out of business.

That's right but judging by the hotel managers reaction to the Ghostbusters work methods and his reluctancy to pay them I don't think that he would have called them had he known what was to happen.

It's not so much the ghost that drove people away, but its habits, bad smell, and–if you take the storyboards/original script as canon–its tendency to wilt flowers and make freshly-pressed suits go bad.
