Questioning the classifications on the ghosts in the RV

At first I was enjoying the Ghostbusters: Video Game (Realistic Version) classicifications of the ghosts and such, cause I guess it looked complete. Then recently I started working on a Paranormal Database on ghosts from the whole ghostbusters universe. I know the animated series were going to be trouble, but after looking at the classes of some of the creatures/ghosts in the game, I am starting to change my mind.

How is the Sloth Ghost a class 5 when its clear that he looks human? Shouldn't he be a class 4?

Why is the possessor ghost a class 7? its not a outer world demon, its a ghost of a human. It would to me seem to be a class 4 also.

Pappy Sargassi is a class 3? He seems quite aware of who he is and the time he's in, so he'd be a class 4 I think.

See what I'm saying, or am I missing something here?

The only thing I can say about this is that this ghost changed design through out the game's development. So its possible the classification is an oversight.

He's classified as a Class V Full-Roaming Cardinal.

Originally he was supposed to be a cardinal ghost meaning that he was the epitome of sloth. After a while, we were told that they (activision) had auctioned off a role in the game for charity. We struggled to find a place for the guy and decided to make him the sloth ghost because he was one of the few ghosts left that didn't have a final model.

This is why I think his classification is an oversight.

The only thing I can say here is that the class 4's don't have the ability to possess items/people or change shape. The original design for these girls were meant to have them go from very beautiful to ugly. Time constraints meant we could only create the ‘monstrous’ form.
Other than that, yeah, you're right, they're not extra dimensional and were once human.
So what's the definition of a Metaspecter?

I agree on this one.

A class 3 is when a ghost begins to take a distinct shape. A class 4 is a class 3 whose identity is realized after investigation.

This doesn't really have to do with the ghost knowing who they were, but the investigators knowing who they were.

Originally, Pap Sargassi was supposed to be a ghost you helped out in the graveyard. You helped him trap the ghost shark that killed him. So the classification of class 3 was correct. You were going to figure out who he was as the graveyard went on. So I chalk this one up to an oversight as well.

I think it's just an over sight on these. When you deal with an ever evolving game design, sometimes things slip through the cracks.

Wow, interesting insight on oversights lol

Huh, goes to show how much Activision cared about the game's potential market, such a contest would've been of interest to some of us, yet this is the first I've heard of it.

Is there any basis for the belief that the ghost was inspired by Mr. Creosote from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life?

I actually heard about the auction…but it was well after the game's release

Hah, well we didn't hear about it until after he had won. They did it at some private funtion or something. One day I randomly get pics of a guy's face and was told, ‘make him a character in the game.’

Yeah, he was part of the inspiration.

Thanks for letting me know, this one has been bugging me quite a bit.

I was looking a bit more and really Beauty Queen Ghost was a class 4 and it is a very similar entity.

Odd yet they have a scan for Possessed Human, which while it may be a class 3, or maybe it should be a class 4 perhaps since we saw the ghost that went in.

Other Ghosts I think may be wrong:
Hobo Ghost-says class 5 when it clearly looks human, probably should be a class 3.

Golems….. The Kitchen Golem is a class 4 but seems like the rest of the golems are a class 6. I think that is a typing error. They seem all to be animal like which makes them all class 6.

Azetlor has to be the most messed up one the classify as he is a golem, but we know him to be a ghost of a human.

Paper Construct looks to be human but is been labeled a class 6. I could also be a class 5 like Webbed Fiend and Black Slime Fiend.

The grave fiends seem to be using human corpses which seems to make them more of a class 3 or class 5, tho my real issue is the label class 6 which isn't at all what they seem to act like.

Anyways, this pretty much covers all the class issues I see. The game itself is pretty awesome, love the game machnics, and the designs of the ghosts/environments. The issues I am raising really nicpicking and don't take them as a bashing of the game.

Yeah, i'm not really sure what went on with the classifications as it was not my department.

What I do know is how many visual and gameplay revisions went on with these ghosts.

Here are some fun ones:

Azetlor's original concepts included a giant worm, a giant quadraped made out of books, and a portal with tentacles coming through them. He eventually became some hunched over, inverted leg creature made of tables, chairs, and other library assets. There should be video of him in an early trailer. Then he became the tornado construct that was in the final game. Though his mask went through several revisions. So did his gameplay.

Originally, the stone lion didn't break apart by the two ghosts. You would show up to the library and one of the lions was already missing. You walked in and found out that it was possessed and running around. You chased him through the library and fought it where the golem is now.

Originally Slimer was up to a lot of no good. You had to track him around the hotel a lot more. In one instance he chased a girl out of the shower and down the hall in only her towel. Then you would see him come back down the hall with her towel in hand. That was back when the game was a lot more of an exploration game like Metroid Prime.

I think that's the concept they went with in the Wii version of the game. Giant worm thing with three tentacles you have to grapple.

Cool insight into what might have been, the lion concept sounded pretty funky.

Aww…ALL of that sounded cool
