They are watch batteries, but the smaller, thicker type (LR-44 I believe).

I'm wondering… If the batteries don't have a pull-tab, then how am I supposed to keep the figure in the box ? I bought two ESPECIALLY because I wanted one to stay MIB…

What kind of batteries are in the pack, anyway ? Watch batteries ? Do they even leak ?

I don't get why the batteries would need to have a pull tab in order to keep one in the box.

A pull-tab would keep the battery intact and it wouldn't leak, right ?

I just honestly don't know if a battery can be drained if we don't use it…

I don't want to keep Ray in that box and find out years later that the battery leaked inside the box.

What does it matter? Who keeps these things sealed in the box, only to open them years later? If you ever plan on opening it, then you might as well open it when you buy it. And if you never plan to open it, then it won't matter whether the battery leaks or not, because you'll never know.

It doesn't really matter, and it's not really rational either. I bought two 12" wanting to display one and keep the other mint-in-box. I don't really want to sell it, I just want an intact one.

If I leave the package mint, the battery will eventually leak. If I alter the package in any way, it stops being mint. But I guess I don't have any choice, I'll open the package from the bottom and remove the battery to make sure it stays in a good condition for the longest possible time.

The point to keeping something in it's original packaging is to keep it mint, pristine, as if it just came off the assembly line (package included). It's not going to be pristine if it's eventually leaking chemicals.

I had though that if the batteries weren't in contact with each other, there wouldn't be a gradual power drain… dead batteries leak, particularly when they're left in a device. But I forgot that batteries naturally drain with age (so a tab actually wouldn't have changed much)…

I think, ideally, the included batteries should have been stored inside of the locker portion of the box (since neither the locker or it's blister is actually sealed). It would have been a breeze to just pop the batteries out of the packaging without any fuss or worry what-so-ever.

Well, at least give it a while before you do anything hasty. I would think that the batteries should be fine for at least a few years. In that time someone may come up with an ideal step-by-step procedure for removing the batteries while doing absolute minimal damage to the packaging… Or maybe MattyCollector will weigh in with a solution.

For now, I think we should wait and see what happens.

Agreed. I've seen toys/items where the watch batteries are included, but they're separate and packaged in such a way that the contacts aren't touching (shrinkwrap with a bit of cardboard in between batteries would suffice).

It still puzzles me why demo batteries were installed in something that doesn't have a demo mode.

Here's a nice shot of all the six inchers together, with the game cover as a backdrop:

The battery v. M-I-B is not new or exclusive to GB. A similar debate arose with the try-it-in-the-package Star Trek toys from Playmates in the '90s. I seem to recall that due to the batteries, the forces that decide such things ruled that if you only opened the package to remove the batteries and nothing else it was still “mint.” Of course, given what it takes to remove said batteries from the pack, my entire interjection may be moot.

On a personal note regarding “collectors” and their precious “mints”:
It's not the frakkin' Mona Lisa; It. Is. A. Toooooooooooyyyyyyyyy!!!! It was born to be played with. (and comics were born to be read, BTW)

I'll get my pics up soon. I'm having scheduling issues…

I only have 1 figure I've never taken out of the package, and I'm still not sure why…

Zombie Spider-Man

It's because, like most of us (just admit it) you've seen Toy Story and you don't want to come home to a bunch of figs with their heads eaten out.

Mmmmmm…. plastic braaaaiinnnsssssszzzzzz……
