That truly IS badass! Bravo, man! That must've taken some serious labour, not to mention loads of cash. I really don't see how anyone can criticize you either, since this is obviously an original and unique thing. I think it does a great job of capturing the spirit of ECTO-1, but it definitely stands alone. I like the yellow/orange-ness of it too… Good luck on finishing it up!

Looks cool! As for the siren, it's actually illegal to have it on no matter which state you are in.

As for the lights, you can not go wrong with amber or yellow lights. Depending on the state you live in, some states don't allow blue lights while other do allow it as long as you don't have it on.

As for purple lights, I am not sure. But check your local laws to see if it is allowed or not.

For the red stripe, I will just put a thin red stripe on the side of the car and that's it.

Sure a message board with 1000s of members, someone's going to be a negative nelly, :-) I think the active posters here have an open mind.

That's pretty sweet what you and anyone else that helped accomplished. Not everyone has the means, whether its time, money, or even if you can find a ‘59 MM in the first place to convert and usually restore into an Ecto 1/Ecto 1A.

As far as the Nissan Extera (sp?) used for an Ecto replica in Hank’s ROTGB GB fan film, I'm pretty sure it was “unconverted” as it was someone's girlfriend's brand new SUV. You guys might still have the only Ecto 1 in Colorado.

I hope you don't mind me asking, since you have the car, do you have or will have the costumes and props? If so, do you have any interest in joining us.

I have the gun in my garage right now, paint is drying. But due to the fact that my car is sort of a hyrbid of the Ecto-1 and the Ecto-1A, and due to the short length of the roofrack, I am debating even putting it on.

But those pics are of the first roll-out. More antennas and tubes and fiddly bits to come in the next few days!!

Thanks for your input!

Yeah… the hardest part, I admit, was planning it all. Figuring out the dimensions of a box with tubes all over it, most of the math was done in our heads, and “well it SHOULD work” was said before every different bit of construction. As for money… the lightbars were super expensive, but everything else is just scrounged from Home Depot. Still a little pricey, though… each end cap for the long pvc pipe on the right side of the car was $8… jesus.

As for the yellow…. meh. I'll be adding more blue later this week with the tubes and some other parts, and the red “binocs” on top of the car later tonight… hopefully.

Thanks for your compliments, it's great to hear support from you guys!

We haven't had any trouble with the siren so far. It is an mp3 of the original movie siren pumped through little PC speakers on top. I can argue that is not a siren, just really low-quality techno that I am playing from my car. Joking, there.

Part of planning the project was talking to as many cops and state troopers as possible. I even phoned up the representatives who passed the Police Impersonation Bill and begged them to let me have blue lights… *goddammit*

Blue, red, and green are all ILLEGAL. Everything else is a-ok, at least in Colorado. Purple was used for forest fire patrol and later for funerals, now it is largely unused.

But I've talked to about a third of the cops on the force here in Fort Collins… and all the cops we see on the streets actually give us thumbs up or the little “surfer” hand signal… funny as hell.

Yeah, the help from businesses has been enormous. I can't wait till it is 100% completed, because we plan on driving to every place that helped us, from Radio Shack to the Action Signs graphics shop to the LightHouse in Denver where we got the lightbars, handing out Thank You cards and just showing off the finished product.

One of the guys that helped build the main box is actually a complete asshole. He's the guy that took these pictures. He fucked up so much of the construction by not asking any questions, or even consulting me on the plans. While I'd be attaching the tubes, he snagged my few remaining feet of 4“ pvc that I was to use for the ”binocs" on top and made this useless little stubby thing…. didn't tell me what he was doing, didn't ask me anything… so that's another $25 I am not seeing back. Further more, he distributed pictures of my car before even showing them to me…. Granted, I may be a little selfish and childish about this, but it is MY F-ing ECTOMOBILE! My dream since I was, what, 3?

Needless to say, he is never riding in the car again…..

I have my jumpsuit, and three of my buddies have theirs on order. I'm getting the patches from Brazil and then we are doing hunting for all the little fiddly bits on them for the next one or two weeks.

And one of my best friends is building us the packs. As for joining you… what are you? Tell me more!

The whole idea is to drive up and run out of the Stanely Hotel in Estes Park (the hotel that inspired Stephen King to write ‘The Shining’) with smoking ghost traps, handing the hotel manager an invoice and bill for several thousand dollars….

Thanks for the compliments…. I'll have more to show you soon.

lol I was just joking about the negative thing I really like your car

I was actually talking about a real gun, not the one that Ecto-1 usually has on his roof… just having fun with some other users about banning guns lol

Ah I see. I didn't get the reference… total noob here.

Yeah, I'm very proud of it, and believe me, if I could I would give every fan a ride in it.

So much fun!
