Slime Blower / football pads??

This might have already been talked about if so sorry. Last night I was watching GB2 and I thought I noticed that instead of an alice pack (duh..) for the slime blower they were using football sholder pads? Is this true? If not what is it then?

They were probably using a combination of a frame and thick pads of some sort. They may or may not be football pads, but I can tell you I've never seen anything like them before so they probably made them custom to fit.
