How old is Slimer supposed to be and how did he die.(*egon)

Probably died from obesity. As for age, I have no idea.

Age: No idea

Cause of death: I don't remember where, but somewhere I read that he was so gluttonous that he ate himself (self cannibalism).

But I think a more realistic cause is he had a heart attack while pigging out at the Sedgewick Hotel.

What is Slimer? :-O
Slimer is a Focused, Non-Terminal Repeating Phantasm, or a Class Five Full Roaming Vapor. Now if you mean, what was he, that's never been established in the movies or the animation. A line by Aykroyd in Making Ghostbusters suggests he's an amalgamation of hungry spirits in the Sedgewick Hotel. (Thanks to D.Osborn for that tidbit) Ghostbusters International suggests he was a byproduct of cult activity in the Sedgewick basement. A Marvel UK RGB comic suggests he was some sort of king*. Some have suggested from the way he acts he used to be a dog. But noone (probably not even Slimer himself) knows for sure.

*–King Remils. Spell that backward, and you can see why noone takes that one seriously.

In real ghostbusters episode “Take Two” (I think, the one where they visit the set of ghostbusters the movie.) The pilot asks slimer how long he's been flying since shes flying in cockpit. Slimer hold up 3 fingers to says he's only been a ghost for 3 years.

Also in the episode “Citizen Ghost” Janine says they were the first people to pay him any attention. This means he couldn't have been ghost too long for no one to notice him much.

Now I know the real ghostbusters isn't cannon but still i think that adds up and that means he's a new ghost. Makes sense.

Like I said i know it's cannon it just could be true. Like you said “Most of the original staff knows about the 12th floor… the disturbances I mean… but its been quite for years, up until 2 weeks ago” Who's to say a) Slimer is the first ghost there? and b) Slimer could have been there when he was first a ghost say 3 years ago then went meaning it was quiet for years.

After all in ghostbusters 2 he's seen in different areas so he's not tied to the hotel. So It's believable that either of those works. Now again I know it's not cannon but I like the idea of him been a new ghost.

Technically if you only watched the first film, “Slimer” isn't canon. lol

Wasn't there another friendly ghost in one episode. He was supposed to be the hero of the town and a big mean bad ghost came along and he risked being contained to help capture the ghost and they ghostbuster cannot let him out because the two ghosts mixed. Then there was one that had a crush on Egon and they had to pretend Egon was dead to have her rest in peace.
