So what are your thoughts on Slimer?

On Real Ghostbusters? Even as a kid I really didn't care for Slimer that much. I didn't hate him but I didn't really see him as anything but the ghostbusters' pet ghost. I didn't really like the show after it became Slimer focussed. I always liked all the ghostbusters and Janine more than Slimer. I think me and my family quit watching after it became Slimer foucused. In fact I never owned any of the Slimer figures as a kid. I did end up buying the Slimer figure from the Extreme Ghostbusters when I was 11 or 12. Anyways, he wasn't my favorite.

I think he was a great and fun character though he was a bit overused in later seasons.

By '89 maybe, when he had his own show and they were still focusing heavily on him in the main series, he got too much for me.

Initially, I didn't really mind him at all. Even some of the earlier episodes that were built around him, I enjoyed. Like “Slimer, Come Home” and “The Two Faces Of Slimer”.

I love the slimer character but I never really liked the fact that in the cartoon show he lived with the Ghostbusters as a pet. I thought it was a good idea to bring slimer back for the cartoon show but I would have done it differently. Instead of having slimer as a pet I would have had slimer be a reccuring character who remains elusive to the Ghostbusters. The one pest that the Ghostbusters can't seem to catch. It could have been a sort of ongoing joke throughout the series.

Having said that, I do love The Real Ghostbusters and had slimer been different it would have been a different show. Slimer was afterall integral to many of the stories and many of the jokes throughout the series.

If another cartoon series based on Ghostbusters is ever made in the future I would like slimer to go back to being a pest and not a pet.

I liked him in real ghostbusters. I liked him in extreme too. However that period of “Slimer & the real ghostbusters” he was overused to the point of been like Jar jar in episode 1. I hated him then and still do.

I like Slimer, but after a certain point he was being over used way too much. I didn't like how his voice sounded by the time the show was canceled.

That's how he was originally intended in the Original RGB concepts. Check, for one thing, the 5 minute promo pilot. Not only is Slimer a pest, he's also a vicious little bastard–he almost, almost causes ECTO-1 to get into a wreck.

For another thing, there's also the original Slimer (“Green Ghost”) toy made by Kenner. They were still working from the original concepts when they made it.

I lived Slimer more as a cameo ghost. It didn't bother me that he lived with the Ghostbusters. I honestly would have preferred it that if they had gone that route they had done like the game did (keep him contained for study).

And as Nix pointed out, the pest they couldn't seem to get rid of

He was handled perfectly in the JMS era, and EGB. I also give credit to Sholly Fische for proving that this portrayal works perfectly well in a more “mature” treatment of the property, no “evil Slimer” or “pest Slimer” needed.

Slimer was basically a running gag: eat and piss off Venkman. I always liked the idea that the other Ghostbusters keep him around just because he annoys Venkman so much (“Just to annoy Peter…howabout we call you ‘Slimer’?”)

“Action hero Slimer” from the post-JMS era, of course, sucked with teeth.

I just thought of a corollary: Family Matters.

Stick with me, here.

Both FM and RGB had an annoying pest (with a grating voice) as a minor character – Steve Urkel and Slimer, respectively – who was quickly promoted from minor/recurring to series lead… and in both cases, eventually brought the show down.
