Some serious, serious pack help

Greetings.
Halloween is appoarching quickly and I thought this year I'd actully be prepared for the event.
But my funds are seeing otherwise. The way I see it, without a job, I can afford only a good looking suit. Meaning, I gotta build anything and everything else on fumes. Now I've seen the prop packs and read the things and there is no way I can afford the great looking packs. So I want to try the “poor-mans” pack. Things I find in my dad's garage and buddy's shop will have to suffice the real things. I know people have tried this and failed merserbly. But I know with some work I can do this.

What I need from you good people is your knowledge. Anyone who has experienced making a pack can be help. Someone who made a decent looking cheap pack would be great help. I plan to post progress pictures and ask questions to make sure I obtain total accuratcy on my level. (I don't want a 4 or below rating in other words). I did some looking around and found a 1/8'' thick board that is 24 3/4'' by 14''. Do you think this will make a good back base to throw everything onto?
And how would I attach straps to the reverse side?

If you need a pic, lettme know.

Thank you

Ok,

The measurements of your motherbaord seem about right, however, you shouldnt worry about it until you've finished all your other parts. A rule of thumb is to always cut your board last so you know everything will fit. A good way to mount the frame is to use dry wall screws, no nails, and remember that the pack sits a little high up so the frame isnt centered. BTW what plans are you using to build your pack?

Hope this helped, and good luck with your pack.

The only reason why I have the board cut was I found this way…

Uh… plans?
I've skimmed over both and was just bewildered. I have the foggiest idea how I'm going to use the plans. I had planed on going by half the plans, possibly for measurements, and using the eye for the location and whatnot. Forgive me if I shattered the Prop Building Commandments or anything, but frankly I'm the newb. I was hoping this project would be my “coming out” and then I could start working on more complexe things.

How about this. Which plans do you prefer and why? I could use some ratios for parts, that'd be helpful…

The two best plans have to be Norman Gagnons Pack Plans and Stefans Pack Plans. Norms plans are layed out with images and examples(highly reccomended for beginners) and Stefans plans are more technical, they measure EVERYTHING. I know Norms plans are posted here, not sure about stefans though. Try sitting down and going over them in depth, you might catch on quicker then you think, it took me years to finally get my project underway.
