(sorry if this has been posted before)

In the scene where Peter is walking through Dana's apartment after the eggs blow up, What's that thing Peter is spraying the room with?

He's using the “ Ghost Sniffer” *sigh* Something that would detect psychokinetic energy in the air.

Or not, given how he was using it…he was spraying that thing like some kind of “Ghost-B-Gone”!

They are fun to use at events. Here's pics I put up of the one our teams uses. Different model but same series as the movie one.

In the GB1 commentary I remember them saying that in the film they were using it as a gas sniffer, just like it is normally used for, since some ghost sightings have been reported with smells, usually sulfur, in the area.

Since ours works we've used it on some people we run into at cons and oh boy, they are off the charts.

I can't help but wonder if he was actually using a regular sniffer and not a “ghost sniffer”.

The product description says it detects potentially harmful gasses. Maybe he was trying to make sure there wasn't a gas leak or anything that could cause a hallucination in Dana. Bear in mind as a parapsychologist - which at that point he was in its entirety (having not yet donned the GB uniform) the simplist scientific answer is still looked for. Which is, in short - she's losing it.

Well, as a description of what it did wasn't given, it may not have been meant to be a gas sniffer in the film universe.

I wonder where the Ghost Sniffer name came from… if it was from something official or if it just got called that by the fans.
