Anyone remembers this awesome DiC animated series from 1993? it's the saturday morning version with Princess Sally and the freedom fighters and not the other one which is comical called “Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog”.

I loved this show since i was 11 years old back in 1993 cause i loved the sonic games when i recieved my Sega system and even collect the comics to this day. It became my favorite cartoon show of all time! it had great animation, action, dark atmosphere plus that gorgeous Princess Sally whom i had a crush on as a 11 year old boy. This is DiC's coolest animated series since “Real Ghostbusters”, “C.O.P.S” or “Inspector Gadget”.

Ah, yes…the SatAM series of which the Archie’s comic that is still going strong to this day is based upon. Was a great series, I know several people, myself included, that whenever they think of Sonic SatAM is the first thing that comes to mind.

I should also point out that the SatAM series in its entirety is out on DVD now.

::edit:;

I feel I should also mention that in case you are intrested, the uber failage Sonic Underground is more or less out on DVD as well. And I think the Anime Sonic X is as well but I didn't get into that so I am not sure

I definatly remember the 90s Sonic Cartoon. I loved it and tried to watch it whenever I could. When they made “Sonic X” I was'nt too excited. I watched it and thought it was pretty dissapointing. The fact that there was more than 1 “Human” character besides Robotnik (that is what I refer to him to this day, I dont really like “Eggman” as his name) was pretty sad.

I will always love the Saturday afternoon cartoons. It had the feel of Sonic The Hedgehog, while others like Sonic X had felt more like Sonic The Hedgehog's version of an old “Planet of the Apes” movie.

Ah, the memories…

The Sonic X series used the Dreamcast / Gamecube Sonic Adventures game as a template and failed miserably. It's too bad too because the games were pretty good considering, the show could have been alright but instead it went kiddie.

I agree, James. They should have learned from other franchises that turned “kiddie” and kept it the way it was at first. They seriously should have left out humans like the “Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog” cartoon did.

Aside from that, they kept using out-of-character voice actors for Vector and E-102 Gamma. They could have stayed closer to the games by making Perfect Chaos look more like his video game counterpart, instead of a water-replica of The Loch Ness Monster.

Also, I heard that the animator for the SatAM cartoon is going to pitch an idea to Sega & DiC to revive SatAM…

Now THAT would be awesome…but has a high potential of being a double edged sword.

I used to love the that series(93')! It was definatly one of my favs on SatAM. It seems like Mario, Sonic, and Zelda(although sometimes corny “Excuussse Meee”) were the only video game-to-cartoon adaptations that seemed to work and be enjoyable. I own the Super Mario Super Show Season DVDs, although you can't watch them very often b/c they were often rip-offs based on other shows/movies, example: Princess, I Shrunk the Mario Brothers and Raiders of the Lost Mushroom, lol.

*Fun Fact* Did you know Ernie Hudson did a guest spot on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. The Episode was titled “Slimebusters” during the episode Ernie Hudson comes over to exterminate a slime monster that soon takes control of Luigi's body.

Untill this thread though I had forgotten about the original Sonic series, so I would like to extend a “Thank You” to *JokerSmells* for reminding me about this great series, Thanks!

I completly agree with you man! After the 93' series they just got no offense to anyone..gay and stupid. There was no need to extend the cast of awesome characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman/Robotnik. I mean maybe a serious new bad guy, and not just for 1 episode. Instead they wussy it up, with drink your milk catch phrases, lol, and add characters like: Cream, Amy Rose, Rogue the Bat, Big the Cat, Vanilla the Rabbit.

Well those are just a few, of the lame, whiny characters, that are only useful for getting trapped/caught, so poor Sonic can't even take 5 mins off to check his Fantasy Football team or whatever hedgehogs do in thier spare time because he's once again gotta the long route because the bridge is down, but he can run on water and decides not to get his hair wet so he looks good when he saves one of the girls, so just maybe on this rescue, he might be rewarded with a piece, lol.

Anyways sorry for the rant, I just get upset, when something with potential, gets ruined b/c certain ppl think that b/c something's for a kid it needs to be extremely dumbed down, have all the characters talk like they're 4, and have silly plots like, “Gee Sonic! I need your help again!I seemed to have lost my lucky paperclip I got from my grandpa, which I think I dropped it in that spot where I've almost died 86 times, known as the 7th circle of Hell.”

Why do they change winning formulas? Kiddie Toons don't need to be stupid to be a kiddie toon. Ghostbusters had complex devices, and decently complex storylines that were interesting. Even LoZ wasn't “bible censored” as I like to call it, I mean Ganon had his huge crystal jar, that he kept dead souls in, Link was always trying to get a royal piece.

The only cartoons I've liked since my kid years was: The Dragonball Shows, Ninja Turtle shows, the Spider-Man shows especially the MTV one, I was really bummed at only one season, and X-Men even Evolution wasn't too bad at least they dealt with High School problems. So I say…please old cartoon formats, styles, just everything about them but updated. I miss watching SatAM cartoons! Spectacular Spider-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are just not enough! Even the old seasons of Pokemon(which I liked, don't laugh) were better than most of this crap! I miss good cartoons, and waiting in anticipation for SatAM to catch the newest episode.

For those of you who pour scorn on Sonic X:

I wouldn't go by the 4Kids dub alone if I were you. Remember that they bought it from Japan and dubbed it for American audiences, cutting out a lot of stuff in the process. The original Japanese version, as I've heard, is a little bit less “kiddie” in its presentation than you've been led to believe.

Which, I believe, is not entirely the fault of 4Kids (though they could use just a little more discretion instead of giving their dubs the Leatherface treatment), but a result of the stigma anime receives from the general public.

Having only seen a single episode of the original version of the series, I cannot fully comment on it's kiddie status or not…but I can definitely seemed to borderline from what I saw.

I haven't really watched Anime in several years (believing the heyday of anime was in the mid to late 90's)…I just don't get some of this newer stuff that's out. Does that mean I am getting old?

Who else had a crush on Sally? I thought she was smokin' hot when i was 11.
