Never heard of this, what is it?

I'm not a huge Trekkie… I was into TNG with my brother when we were kids, but I absolutely loved the new movie.

It's an MMO based within the Star Trek Universe…well…specifically 30+ years after the movie Star Trek: Nemesis and 20+ years from the time period Spock Prime came from in the 2009 Star Trek movie.

My computer needs a serious upgrade before I can play but it's the first online game I'm actually intersted in playing. I may wait a few months so maybe any initial bugs are fixed. One of my Klingon loving friends refuses to play now because he doesn't feel the Klingons got as much attention as Starfleet in the development and gameplay. I just hope the ship names I've picked out don't get gobbled up but with the way they're doing the ships and registry numbers I'm sure they'll be tons of duplicate names on different ships.

Having playing been playing the Open Beta, and following the game since Cryptic acquired the rights to the game after Perpetual folded…waiting a little while before playing is not that bad of an idea. While they gave made great strides in correcting problems in Open Beta…there are still a lot there that needs to be. As far as your friend is concerned…even though I have no plans to play the Klingon Empire, I do agree with him that the Klinks got the short end of the stick…but think of it this way…how many Star Trek series every revolved around them specifically? My point being that Federation is where Star Trek has always been at…and that's how it will always be in STO. Having said that, I need to say a lot of work has been done on the Klingons since the announcement of how the Klingons will be played in December till now…and Cryptic has said that they will continue to work on them as the game carries on. Cryptic also is looking to put out a massive patch 45 days after release to add more content (first rounds of end game stuff), correct bugs that were missed in Beta or didn't have time to be fix and there is a rumor that a lot of Klink stuff is to be added in the 45 day patch.

As far as the ship names are concerned…you should never see duplicate ship (apparently you will never be placed in a shard with a ship of the same name) according to an early post by a Dev.

Anyway. I am having a hella time. I hope some of you will join up sometime…I am going cruiser for ship class so keep a look out for me

I can definitely tell they made strides on the Klingon side. I just think they initially underestimated the Klingon cult out there.

As a side note they need a Klingon tv series. Would definitely be something different. Or a parallel universe series.

I don't think they underestimated them, Honestly, it was all a matter of time. Atari (the publisher of the game) has been pressuring Cryptic for the game to be released in early 2010…That being the case they had to prioritize.

That being said, the Klingon side isn't completely void of content, though they have some PvE stuff, they mostly have PvP matches against Federation Players, as well as matches against other Klingon players called House v. House and they are actually quite fun

And as far as a Klingon based TV series….DO NOT WANT:-)

For me, my disappointment on the Klingon side is that they have the Gorn as playable characters. I really wanted to play as a Gorn, but I don't PvP in the least.

And what do you mean by this, that we can't have ships with the same name? Cause if someones already taken the USS Galveston, I'm screwed.

What I mean is this:

Players can have the same ship names as each other. You should, however, never see this duplicate ship names. According to early news by the dev's whenever you zone in, one of the prereqs the game uses when “randomly” choosing a shard to place you it is whether or not a ship with your name is in the shard….supposedly.

Whether that's true or not…I dunno. All I can say is that I have yet to see a ship with the same name of my ship…but then again…I have weird names for ships.

An oddity is players cannot own 2 ships of the same name…but the game to assign you a randomly named ship with the same names…weird eh?
