In this other board I was on, they got spam so bad, that they needed a way to stop it. They programed the board, to were you would have to log in, before you can even look at the board. Know what I mean? It droped they're spamming over 60%! Just an idea.

That's a good idea but only problem is, people won't be able to find you on the search engines because all the messages are hidden.

I think you got this idea from http://www.proptopia.com/ . Right?

He actually did it because of too many search engines go to his site.

There's a better way to do it. I am not sure if this forum have it or not. When someone sign up, they have to enter a code which they see in a graphic file. I seen many forums doing this now to prevent bots from signing up and post messages.

Another way is, prevent people from posting a link until they post at least 10 posts or more.

Now those are pretty cool ideas. Actually, I got the idea from the Bill and Ted message board. I'm also a huge Bill & Ted fan. :-)

We're aware of these methods. The graphic one unfortunaty doesn't work. The rest we need to wait till Chad gets back online permanently.

Well, even the spambots are getting cocky now, replying to a topic specifically about spam! seriously, i think new members should be locked till it can be sorted out! i dread looking at any topic anymore for fear of something bad!

Like Sinister says, any further action would have to be taken by Chad, the owner of this board. PHPBB can be set to require Administrator activation of new accounts–we had to move to this system on GBHQ–but you would have to have enough Administrator online time to make it work. Otherwise, you might lose potential new real users.

I'd advise everyone who is concerned, send a message Chad's way…I got online this morning and home from work and there were a few spam accounts who had posted up to 20 times each. Maybe a concern from a lot of people would get his attention. It's getting out of hand REALLY bad and I and other people I'm sure are tired of seeing it upon logging on.

Suggestion 2

When we edit something, there's no icon that says it on the msg board.
Why not a green colored icon for that purpose

You mean something to show a post has been edited? I've seen on the odd occasion “USERNAME has edited his post at TIME on DATE”, although I'm not sure of the importance or need for something pointing out a post has been edited.
