(not sure if this is the right section to post this, but it's the one I check the most often, feel free to move if need be)

Hey guys,

So, I had an awesome night last night.

  • I got to meet and talk to Ivan Reitman. Found out his take on Ghostbusters 3.
  • I played the full version of the Wii game extensively.
  • And I got to watch Ghostbusters in Blu-ray on the big screen.
I wrote all about it in an article for a website I freelance for: collider.com

Here's a link to the site:

And here's a direct link to the article:

Let me know if you have any questions about the game, and I'll try to answer them as best I can!

Oh, and one last piece of news, a rep from Atari is emailing me the date that the demo is going to be released. I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

Enjoy!

DUDE ! you are just awsome, you are one lucky bastard. Okay so tell me how was the freaking game ? Seriously I can't believe it that you got to play the full game. Oh and by the way, did Atari say on when they would mail you back about the demo release date ?

Still waiting on that email. The rep I talked to is at E3 all day today, so I can understand the delay…but it's killing me just as much as it's killing any of you.

The game was great! I was surprised to find that the Wii controls were very responsive. Almost too responsive/sensitive. As in, when you first pick it up and play, it doesn't take very much movement of your right hand to turn your character. BUT after a minute, it's really no longer a concern, and actually feels good, because you can spin your character quickly, when necessary.

It also helps in that your accuracy isn't always dead on, making it feel more like what I envisioned really shooting a proton beam would be like.

The destruction in the environments was nice. You can really go through destroying just about anything. I was surprised the Wii could handle this so well. And with no slowdown!

Using the PKE meter to scan ghosts worked well, but was still challenging when there was a lot going on onscreen (especially with multiple ghosts being blasted at by other Ghostbusters). Having a second player should help with that.

It's worth noting that I played on the normal difficulty, and found most of the beginning of the game to be VERY easy. I was almost a little dissapointed how easily and quickly I caught Slimer. Things definitely get tougher though, but I just might try to play through the game on Hard the first time through, when I pick it up.

Dialogue is all done very well. Pretty much a perfect match as to what's going on in the PS3/360 version.

how was the blu ray? worth picking up? How was the quality of the film? Outstanding 1080p?

and you didn't get a picture with Reitman? it's a chance of a lifetime to meet someone like that!

Haha, I know. It's so tough, because I'm there “technically” as a professional, so I can't exactly just have someone snap a photo of me with him. It was still just cool getting to meet him though. Seemed like a really good guy, and a HUGE fan of movies all around.

About the blu-ray:
In all honesty, the quality wasn't that much better, but it was noticeable. Does that necessarily increase my enjoyment of the film? Not really.

Still, I'm sure I'll pick it up anyways, if only for the special features. Besides, if there's one film I'm going to own on VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray, it might as well be Ghostbusters.

Here's what I wrote about the blu-ray in the article:
"After watching Ghostbusters several times over the last couple months on regular DVD, I am convinced that on Blu-ray the film has never looked, or sounded, better. Granted, I did get to experience this upcoming release on a theater-sized screen with a great sound system. Still, the vast improvement in the picture and sound quality was readily apparent. I found this very surprising, as the film is twenty-five years old, and I’ve often said that there’s no point in re-buying an old film on Blu-ray if you already own it on DVD. However, I am now convinced that with the right amount of effort applied to the transfer, even older films can look and sound better in the Blu-ray format. Big props to Sony for putting in the effort to make this a great release."

Haha, I'm the same way! I don't even have a Blu-Ray player (but my parents do, whom I visit often), but I'll be buying this. And I have the DVDs twice (original release and green slimey 2-pack release)

i think Ben should put this in the General or GB3 section. since its more about the whole franchise than the VG..

Anyway, looks like its all up to the script ( as if we didnt know already ). and its a relief to hear the ‘passing of the torch’ is only a smidgen of the story and not the central focus. and nice to hear its “looking good” from someone other than Dan.

Personally, i dont think it be a good idea to turn it down now. The hype behind the 3rd film is already brewing like crazy, they'd miss a big opportunity to turn back. If its already tremendously hyped right now even before the ad-campaign, imagine what the hype will be when the film is actually promoted. In other words, they're too deep in the public eye for the expectation of a new film, that to scrap it would be foolish.

If the first draft is rubbish, they can always make improvements, if it isnt shot or produced yet.

GBII finally getting the treatment it deserves, lots of special features. we will FINALLY be able to see the Slimer/Louis scenes! what if they're complete crap and we waited all this time for nothing, and understand why they were cut from the film? haha.

Though they still havent added the awaited Fort Detmerring deleted/extended scene with Winston and Ray to the new release, shame.

it's what leads to the Ghost BJ scene that they used for Ray's dream sequance in the montoge
