The Blu-ray transfer

Found a couple of interesting things while scanning through some of the reviews via Proton Charging.

First up, a tidbit about the transfer from DigitalBits' review:

Editor's Note: I've confirmed with Sony's head of mastering that cinematographer Lszl Kovács personally supervised and approved the new Blu-ray transfer and color timing before his death last year. The transfer was also approved by director Ivan Reitman. Note that Kovács was NOT involved in the transfers for the previous DVD releases, including the original 1999 DVD.

Hmmm….

Here are some screenshots of the Blu-ray's transfer from Blu-ray.com's review. These are the small versions, you can view much larger versions of the images at the gallery here as well as some additional images: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=3661&show=screenshots

Opening Title

“Ger her!”

“He slimed me.”

“Okay, I'm opening the trap…”

“Good evening!”

“Mother puss-bucket!”

Anyone wanna grab some screenshots of previous transfers for comparison?

Also, has anyone watched the film on VHS lately? The pre-1999 release to be more specific. The film has a very blue tint to it, its weird. Is that a result of the tape degrading or…?

I'm loving that transfer. It looks really good in my opinion.

It looks like they fixed the green mess when Slimer is trapped in the beams in the 2005 release. That always annoyed me.

Looking at the comparison shots again and realizing the differences between both DVD releases.

The Blu-ray looks great so far. Still on the fence whether to get it or wait for GBII on Blu. Though this coupon I have for the disc certainly makes it tempting..

The one that really does it for me is the “Get her!” picture… you can actually see her eyes… that's pretty sweet.

Not by much, now Slimer's detail has been blown out, not to mention the detail of the brighter bits of the fog at Gozer's temple.

Jumping to the other images on bluray.com, I'm really liking the menu (ecto-goggles!), and the disc art itself. Something new, and interesting.

“… and it does look good” (apart from a little noise/graininess)

1080p screenshots are available for Blu-ray.com members (membership is free)
