Well just watched several bits from the Blu-Ray and have to say that the grain is VERY heavy in the film. I just don't understand it, films like Blade Runner and The Godfather have been reffered to as some of the best looking in High Definition after they were professionally restored to HD from there original 35mm prints. I'm not sure what process was spent restoring the prints if any, but that would of made a good extra to put on the disc. I wonder if in the future another attempt will be made to restore the print and release yet another copy on Blu-Ray, they seem to be doing this quite a lot on films recently, like the 2 versions released of Terminator 2, with the new Sky-Net edition bein=g the newest. When I was reading about that restoration I read that during the process of encoding it, even more grain gets added, there was a nice piece about grain over on the DigitalBits website.
I have watched a few of the new extras and all I have to say is WOW!
The restoring of ecto-1 was great especially Danny talking about all the components on the car, which he knew exactly what they were called and what they did, nice bit at the end when he takes it for a little spin.
The Making of the Videogame is very good as well, you see a few bits of the game you have probably not seen before and all in HD like it will be when you are playing it and not some poor YouTube quality version.
One bit that made me laugh was when Danny is talking in detail about all the equipment in detail and recons if he had $90BN he could build it all.
There was a bit in the interview where Ernie is chatting about his experiences and I don't want to sound like a big head as lots of people have probably said to him the same thing, but when I met him a few years back at a convention I had a good chat with him and had a photo taken of course. I got him to sign a cast picture and told him to write “That's A Big Twinkie” to which he laughed and did and signed it with his name and also Winston. In the interview on the Blu-ray he say's he had no idea that he had so many memorable quotes like “That's A Big Twinkie” (I like to think he's talking about the time we met, probably not as a I would guess most ghost heads would ask him to sign the same thing).
One thing that made me mad was on the Blu-Live feature where you go online to the SONY site you can download the trailer for the Blu-Ray disc, next to it it lists who starred, directed and wrote the film. Under the bit where it says starred it has the normal cast including Annie Potts, William Atherton & Rick Moranis, but NO ERNIE HUDSON, I mean WTF how many ways can poor Ernie keep getting dissed, words fail me.
Slimer Mode is good, you have the film playing, while a second window pops up with various people from the movie, cast and crew talking about there experiences.
There is also a CineChat feature where you can watch Ghostbusters with several people over the net with connected Blu-Ray devices and have web chat on screen with buddies while watching the film together.
