Well just watched several bits from the Blu-Ray and have to say that the grain is VERY heavy in the film. I just don't understand it, films like Blade Runner and The Godfather have been reffered to as some of the best looking in High Definition after they were professionally restored to HD from there original 35mm prints. I'm not sure what process was spent restoring the prints if any, but that would of made a good extra to put on the disc. I wonder if in the future another attempt will be made to restore the print and release yet another copy on Blu-Ray, they seem to be doing this quite a lot on films recently, like the 2 versions released of Terminator 2, with the new Sky-Net edition bein=g the newest. When I was reading about that restoration I read that during the process of encoding it, even more grain gets added, there was a nice piece about grain over on the DigitalBits website.

Well, grain is a natural byproduct of shooting on 35mm film. So really, aside from a cusory dirt/grain wash on a film before scanning, heavy grain is going to be natural for some films.

It's digital smoothing to remove grain that's bad. Just remember, the Blu-ray best represents how GB looked in the theater. Grain isn't something that accumulates as film gets older, so that grain was there on original release. SFX shots especially have more grain because of the joining together of two filmstrips (the background, the effects) on the optical printer.

Not sure if i like the new menu, its alot simpler, than the atmospheric view through the city, we had in the previous releases, sometimes simple is good, but, i was expecting something a bit more alive.

maybe im just too used to the awesome 3D menu, we've had for so long..

But the movie looks incredible! holy cow!

The menu is very simple and not as good as the 3D previous versions on DVD, but I still have to see a jaw dropping menu on a Blu-Ray release.

There are NO new deleted scenes, just what we have seen before.
Some of the previous special features from the DVD's are back again as well.
The Ecto-1 feature is about 15 mins long.
The Videogame feature is about 11 mins long.
The new slimer feature is brand new and is the length of the film.

Will have another look at the disc after dinner and report back.

Players can be had for cheap now!

And despite the grain issues I've heard, I'm still stoked for Ghostbusters………now if only we had some GB2 news.

At Walmart we have one for 129 dollars on sale starting tomorrow.

I actually like the look of the “grain”, it gives it a more…timeless quality. As long as there are no streaks/“dirty spots”, I will be happy with it.(*peter)
