Don't count on another release of Ghostbusters on Blu any time soon. It will be quite some time if they ever release it again.

Yeah, I agree, but one can always hope.

Now don't get me wrong, it has a lot more detail than any of the other releases, but that grain is horrendous in the blu ray, i'd almost rather watch the superbit release over this.

Yeah the transfer l00ks bad, but thankfully I got it for 9 bucks on Amazon. I'm just waiting for GB2, and hoping it looks better.

Guys….grain is not bad especially not in cases like this. Granted, it may be a bit heavy, but if they eliminated all the grain, believe me, it would hurt it far more than it would help. Just look at the Blu-rays for the Star Trek movies. All those reviews complain that the process used to eliminate grain (Digital Noise Reduction or DNR) was overly done and hurt the visual quality of the movies.

Regardless of what was in the crappy trek films, ghostbusters had the potential to look great, even the high res screen shots looked stunning, but when you see it in action it is inexcusably awfull. this is a move that probally could have benefitted from digital noise reduction. There is simply no good reason or explanation for how bad it looks, especially in the darker scenes. I understand trying to defend the film because let's face it we are all Ghostbusters fans here, but I find it hard to sit back and defend something like this.
This transfer is so hard on the eyes that it makes me want to watch the dvd versions….that is bad. To me it simply seems that they didn't put forth the resources and effort to do it right, plain and simple, they could have made this look so much better, and don't even try to tell me they couldn't. I have seen movies much older than this tranfered to blu ray that look far better than this transfer does, so don't give me that talk about how it's the type of film they used or how old the footage is. Like I said I have close encounters of the third kind on blu ray and even it looks better than ghostbusters does…defend it all you want, I have seen it with my own eyes, and they don't lie.
