The Blues Brothers

These past couple of weeks I've been watching a lot of Dan Aykroyd movies, mostly Ghostbusters simply because I love Ray and the guys but I also dug out my copy of ‘The Blues Brothers’.

I first watched this movie when I was about 10 (Naughty I know seeing as I wasn't old enough) and found it totally engrossing even then, I think it had something to do with the fact I've grown up with my parents listening to a lot of music styles, one of which was blues, and I knew a lot of the songs featured in the movie even though I was so young. It also had a hell of a lot to do with the fact that I was totally in love with Elwood Blues (Dan). I remember going to a fancy dress party as Elwood when I was about 13 and I went through a period where I wore my sunglasses at night. I thought I was soooo cool, lol.

Now I'm a lot older I find I appreciate the movie more because I understand it better and I think it's slightly more acceptable that a 23 year old girl can fancy a much older guy…it was slightly strange when I was 10 years old, lol.

Not sure if anyone else on here likes The Blues Brothers but I can certainly say I really enjoyed it and still do to this day and it's funny but when I watch it I don't see ‘Raymond Stantz’ I see Elwood Blues which just goes to show how brilliant an actor and writer Dan Akyroyd is. Sometimes when I watch a TV show or movie with someone in that I like and then they work on something else I can just see the character that made me like them in the first place, but not with him.

Anyway just a daft little post to salute the greatness that is Dan Aykroyd (and The Blues Brothers movie).

The movie is great yeah. I have a lot of their songs on my Ipod (they're a real band ya know). There was also a sequel, Blues Brothers 2000 which wasn't as good.

Yeah I knew they were a real band, lol.

When I was a kid though and I believed everything my Parents told me my Dad said they were real brothers. It had happened after I saw The Blues Brothers stage show with some friends and my Dad was like “Oh yeah they are real brothers but one of them has passed away.”

When I had first seen the movie I just accepted it was fictional but after that I went around for ages thinking John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd were brothers. My Dad laughed years later when I reminded him what he had said and how he had totally convinced me. Parents can be so cruel, lol.

I also have Blues Brothers 2000 on DVD, which my younger brother totally loves because he always wanted to be Buster, the little boy. I have to say I agree it isn't as good as BB1 but I loved it all the same.

Dan Aykroyd is amazing, i got back into Blues Brothers recently too. I must say, Aykroyd has become my favorite brain in Comedy over Ramis. Not only is he funny, but hes also very intellectual and passionate about music, film, and everything he does.

Not to mention, Classc 40s/50s/60s R&B and Soul, have become two of my favorite styles of music, and having gotten back into Blues Brothers, this solidified my love for the styles.

Blues Brothers 2000 was kinda tame…and lame.

I totally agree with that Slimer388, Dan Aykroyd is very passionate when it comes to things he is interested in, you can tell that just by watching his interviews and the documentaries on the DVD extras. I think that is great though because if your going to like something it's worth liking it properly, lol. My friends say I'm quite like that because I have an obsessive personality (in a good way, not a strange psycho way). When I get into something I learn everything about it and have to have everything relating to it. Some people might find that weird but it's just the way I am. I like to be an expert.

Regarding BB 2000, bless it, it was very tame as you mention but that was kind of a good thing for me because when my little brother watched it he loved little Buster and wanted to be him so when he got older I showed him the original Blues Brothers and he loved that too so all's well that ends well, lol.

“Jake: How much for the little girl? How much for the women?
Father: What?
Jake: Your women. I want to buy your women. The little girl, your daughters… sell them to me. Sell me your children.”

Priceless……

Ofcourse completely agree, what would be the point of being a fan? the whole point ( in my opinion ) is to be influenced and inspired, how could that be possible if you werent able to study into it?

That has to be one of my favourite scenes in the movie. John Belushi is fab, bless him. I just love the look on Mr Fabulous's face when they walk in and he's like “Oh no wasn't it 5 years?” Classic!

Another of my favourite scenes in the movie is when Jake and Elwood go to visit ‘The Penguin’ and she hits them with the ruler for using foul language. Elwood is sooo funny “OW YOU FAT PENGUIN!” I cry with laughter and have to keep watching the scene over and over.

Oh that's another thing I did, I only ate dry white toast for months. Funnily enough I still prefer my toast that way, lol.
