I'm still of two minds about this thing, just so you know.

Id been reading the websites about this movie and I saw the trailer last night with the Dark Knight and that movie is gonna be absolutely awesome! I'm gonna go read the comic before it comes out.

One aspect of this story that I always liked was that it's a comic book story about comic books… Does that make sense?

Seeing the trailer, this looks a lot more traditional than the comics. This looks like a straightforward superhero thing, when the comics were more than that. Something like Batman, who is really more of an all around cartoon character, is much better suited to movie adaptation.

Not that I thought they were the be-all, end-all. I was always more a Batman fan than a fan of this stuff.

I wonder if they'll somehow translate the pirate comic sequences from the comic book to the movie? I gotta say, I'm disappointed with the direction they took with Nite Owl's costume…

I've heard rumors of a Tales of the Black Freighter tie in of some sorts.

As for Night Owl's costume… I don't mind it, spandex really wouldn't have worked with the grittiness they're going with.

The change they made to Rorschach's mask is an interesting one… making it shift and change… wonder if it'll shift and change to represent whatever the person who looks at it fears.

He's supposed to be based off of Blue Beetle, but I get a definite Keaton Batman vibe from looking at that picture.

Anybody know the name of the song in the trailer? Fit the mood perfectly, almost like the one for 30 Days of Night.

Here's the thing about the costumes.

Watchmen was a deconstruction of the comic book superhero concept. It worked so well as a graphic novel because its audience was comic book fans.

This is a movie. It's audience will be people who go to comic book movies. People who think superhero uniforms are black leather and rubber armor.

It's actually pretty clever, trying to give the movie signifigance to the viewer the way the comic had signifigance to the reader.

Only problem is, the concept of shades of gray and good guys who are bad was shocking and new in the 80's…not so much anymore.

The Beginning is the End is the Beginning by The Smashing Pumpkins.

I think I may also undertake a re-reading of my copy of Watchmen, it's been a few years since I last did that.

Word on the street is that the pirate story will be released online. Zach can't fit it into the actual movie, so he's not going to try.

And i gotta agree with Chrismer, I don't think the effect of the story will work as well on this audience….the question is whether or not I care. I don't. The movie is going to be made as a love letter to the book and thats fine, because I love the book.
