NileQT87-Solo_Blues, as the guy who actually put together the Timeline, I can assure you that I took no drugs other than the occasional allergy pill during its creation.
The birthdates of the Ghostbusters are drawn from different sources, and most of them at least partially backed by being official, Columbia Pictures licensed material.
To summarize:
Venkman Year of 1954 derived from age listed in
Ghostbusters International rule book. The exact date of birth
is fan conjecture (Dr. Riddle provided the date, which he got from a fan site) but it matches a “range” of dates created by the RGB episode “Mean Green Teen Machine”, where Venkman claims to be a Scorpio.
Ray Year of 1959 derived from on-screen reference in “It's About Time” Exact date
is, admittedly, fan conjecture to the best of my knowledge.
Egon Possibly the most solid date of all: the 1957 birth year not only matches a reference to his age in the
GBI book, but also the idea that he celebrates his 40th birthday in 1997 (the XGB episodes “Sphinx” and “Back In The Saddle”). The date again comes from “Back In The Saddle” which establishes it as about a week before Thanksgiving. A little checking and I discovered that Harold Ramis was born on November 21–and November 21, 1997 was about a week before Thanksgiving that year.
Winston Admittedly, this is the shakiest one. The exact date comes from Riddle's source, while the year was from arbitrarily adding 10 years to the age in
GBi. It is strong fan assumption, backed up by some of the remarks in the GB1 script that weren't included in the final film, that Winston served in Vietnam–and a birth year of 1963 would've simply made him too young.
Janine She graduated in 1977 (“Brooklyn Triangle”) and is a Scorpio (“The Crawler”), giving us a “range” of Oct 23-Nov 22, 1958. The exact date of October 28 is arbitrary, but suggested by that being the birthdate of one Annie Potts
Dana Again, year derived from
GBI. The script for GB1 insinuates that Dana is yet another Scorpio, but I decided to go with the same birthdate as Sigourney Weaver for a little variety.
Louis Year is actually derived straight from GB1 dialog: he throws his party to celebrate 4 years as an accoutant. Thus, assuming he went to college for 4 years after high school, he's 26 in 1983 and thus born in 1957. The date is derived from Rick Moranis's birth day.
(The online version of the Timeline still lists 1958 from an erroneous reference; I haven't been able to correct it yet due to my computer problems–the update is still sitting on my hard drive)
So no, I didn't pull those dates out of nowhere (for the most post). Just because Egon
acts older than Venkman doesn't mean he is–it just means he's more mature. There is a difference
