I have almost the same memories! Our local Fox station here in Jacksonville, FL (Fox30) showed RGB at 4:30, then Charles In Charge (I would immediately change it, I think Brave Starr was on the other channel which is just as bad). For a couple years, RGB was at 4:30 and then TMNT at 5:00… a full hour of bliss! What a great time to be a kid!
I remember watching it on Saturdays but by that time, Dave Coulier and Kath Soucie had come in, and Slimer was starting to take over, so it was less and less interesting. TMNT became my cartoon of choice. That show started to tank, too, plus by then I was into junior high and was becoming the butt of jokes for being into this stuff, so I buried my nose into the grim-n-gritty TMNT comics (marginally more socially acceptable)…
Now of course this stuff is cool again! I can wear my Ghostbusters T-shirt without fear of ridicule or rejection!
I think where I grew up (NY), the two syndicated channels that showed weekday cartoons were Ch.5 (Fox) and Ch.11 (WPIX).
If I remember correctly, and keep in mind that this is 20-years ago, you would have the Disney Hour on Ch. 11 (before it became Disney afternoon), which consisted of DuckTales at 3:30 and Rescue Rangers are 4 p.m. Then, at 4:30 p.m., you would switch over to Ghostbusters on Fox 5.
From there, the Disney hour grew to the Disney afternoon and at one point you could go from Gummie Bears, to DuckTales, to Rescue Rangers, to Ghostbusters, to TMNT at 5 p.m.
At some point Ghostbusters would drop from syndication and exist entirely on Saturday morning and I believe it was replaced by Tiny Toons.
Of course by around 1993, Saturday morning cartoons were coming to an end and the syndicated programs would be severly reduced by the end of the 90's.
