The Official Real Ghostbusters DVD Q&A Thread

I have almost the same memories! Our local Fox station here in Jacksonville, FL (Fox30) showed RGB at 4:30, then Charles In Charge (I would immediately change it, I think Brave Starr was on the other channel which is just as bad). For a couple years, RGB was at 4:30 and then TMNT at 5:00… a full hour of bliss! What a great time to be a kid!

I remember watching it on Saturdays but by that time, Dave Coulier and Kath Soucie had come in, and Slimer was starting to take over, so it was less and less interesting. TMNT became my cartoon of choice. That show started to tank, too, plus by then I was into junior high and was becoming the butt of jokes for being into this stuff, so I buried my nose into the grim-n-gritty TMNT comics (marginally more socially acceptable)…

Now of course this stuff is cool again! I can wear my Ghostbusters T-shirt without fear of ridicule or rejection!

I think where I grew up (NY), the two syndicated channels that showed weekday cartoons were Ch.5 (Fox) and Ch.11 (WPIX).

If I remember correctly, and keep in mind that this is 20-years ago, you would have the Disney Hour on Ch. 11 (before it became Disney afternoon), which consisted of DuckTales at 3:30 and Rescue Rangers are 4 p.m. Then, at 4:30 p.m., you would switch over to Ghostbusters on Fox 5.

From there, the Disney hour grew to the Disney afternoon and at one point you could go from Gummie Bears, to DuckTales, to Rescue Rangers, to Ghostbusters, to TMNT at 5 p.m.

At some point Ghostbusters would drop from syndication and exist entirely on Saturday morning and I believe it was replaced by Tiny Toons.

Of course by around 1993, Saturday morning cartoons were coming to an end and the syndicated programs would be severly reduced by the end of the 90's.

I now am not sure exactly when I started watching RGB. It was certainly September of 1987 at the very latest, and I suppose it was September of 1986 (the beginning) at the earliest. I know I watched it only on Saturday mornings for a while, and had to settle for Filmation's Ghostbusters on weekdays, which would seem to indicate that I started watching before the September '87 syndication. I distinctly remember, almost certainly 09/87, first grade, my mom looking through the TV guide and then changing the channel to show me that RGB was now airing on weekdays.

I was in NY as well and am fairly certain that Ducktales followed, not preceded, RGB on the same channel for some period of time.

Not sure which came first (I still want to say DuckTales), but you actually did remind me of something.

Ducktales not only debuted in the NY area as a two hour tv movie, it actually ran on Fox 5 for that first season. I had completely forgotten about that until you reminded me.

It sickens me that I have the full “Duck Tales” Theme somewhere but not the full RGB Theme! I am receiving my RGB Complete set next week - the Promo contains the Full RGB Theme right? But I'm guessing it's laden with sound effects too? Can anyone confirm this? If anyone could send me / post the audio to tide me over that would be even better! (I'll love you forever!)

I'm working on a Wikia page on what is on the Box Set. Page URL:
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/The_Real_Ghostbusters_Season_Guide_(Box_Set)

Also, no they didn't include the redubs of season 1(Like anyone wanted them), The first season is not bright like abc saturday morning but weekday tint. Perhaps like the VHS'es were. The Box set doesn't give Region information, and I can't find a program that knows.

Did anyone else notice Egon trying to contact the Enterprise at the beginning of the pilot?

So did anyone else think it was kind of funny that pretty much everybody said that they were unhappy when Dave Coulier took over for Peter. Maurice LaMarche had some good things to say about Coulier, but he still said that he felt like something was missing when Lorenzo left the crew. Not only that but when you watch the Featurette on the Heroes (either vol 2 or 3 I can't remember) they go through all of the voice actors who've played the guys, even Buster Jones, but don't mention Coulier at all.
