The Real Ghostbusters Return

Hello- I havent decided if I am making a comic or cartoon- but my drawing skills might not be good enough for a cartoon yet. I do have experience in macromedia flash of about 6 years plus what I have learned in Graphic Design.

I wanted to get the opinions from other Ghostbuster fans here before I went any further with my RGB work.

I have drawn all the guys so far just in different poses- Janine is the only one I havent drawn yet. Way back in highschool I used to sketch them in class :p

Yeah so whatever you guys have to say about it - I have heard it all when it comes to my drawing and my projects. It will just help me improve more so let me know.

This was all drawn in macromedia flash.
Oh right and some effects in photoshop.

So I checked them out – they aren't bad, but it looks like you should concentrate on the basics first. Drawing shapes, volumes, and generic human heads. Lots of people don't think they “need” that stuff but you'd be amazed how your drawing skills grow by leaps and bounds when you spend a few weeks concentrating on the basics.

Also when I started art school ten years ago, I was forced to realize that the “Style” I loved so much had to be thrown out the window so I could learn how to actually draw. Style kind of evolves naturally from there.

Sometimes, designers are fantastic designers, but lack drawing skills. Some of my best friends can design loops around me, but couldn't draw their way out of a wet paper bag. Does that make sense?

(Not that I am Michelangelo or anything – but I spent many years in art school and as a freelance illustrator, I know a little bit.)

My advice is to keep practicing, and to find a copy of either the Walter Foster book on animation by Preston Blair, or a copy of How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way by Stan Lee and John Buscema. Although both books sound like they're geared towards “kid's stuff,” the basics they teach are essential. Both books are pretty readily available on the 'net, and in bookstores and art supply shops.

Yeah I kinda expected this kind of response- I know I cant draw I have been told many many times. I do this for fun on my spare time because I enjoy using macromedia flash.

This is what I was looking for actually it made me make up my mind- I am not continuing with the RGB stuff. Thanks for the advice- I have been practicing for years- I know it will never get any better then this.

Whoa! I don't think it's that you “can't draw” so much as it is you just need more practice. I really think anybody can learn to draw reasonably well, as long as they have the desire, the willingness to practice, and proper guidance.

I would like to see some of your flash stuff though.

Well if I do end up doing anymore RGB work I will post it- but thats all I have for them so far. Nah I have been practicing for years like I said- when will be the time when I actually do get good at it? I dont know. Thats what frustrates me- I take in what others say go back and improve then there is always something more to do.

Well, that's what life's all about…there's always something new to learn every day.

Ye Gods, do I sound like Mr. Rogers or what?
