I admit, I prefer the original Ecto-1 to the Ecto-1A; I've not seen EGB, so I couldn't comment on that, but the RGB version wasn't too bad - just a little simplified, as I recall.
As for paranormal powers… perhaps something minor or one-time-only linked to experimental devices Ray and Egon have been creating, powered by PKE or “mood slime” could be interesting. For example, I like to think that the (sadly unseen, even as a DVD extra) filmed-but-cut parking ticket scene relates to Ray making an anti-theft/anti-tamper device similar to a modern remote-control car immobiliser. Can you imagine what a pain it would be, having the general public trying to take pieces of your car as a souvenir, or tampering with sensitive equipment? So Ray finds a way to channel PKE into this system, which is controlled by a little key fob, and causes thermal discharge to points of contact when activated. Parking tickets burn up. Souvenir hunters get their fingers slightly singed.
Plausible? Who knows. Off-topic? Yes
(oops!). The long and short is, I'd like to see the original Ecto-1 as she was in the first movie, possibly with minor powers or unusual gadgetry - but not the sort of particle/anomaly/device-of-the-week abuse which ran rampant on “Star Trek: Voyager”!
