Toy Fair 2002 and GB

I am heading out to NYC tomorrow for the annual International Toy Fair; I'll be in town for about a week. I haven't been there in several years (I used to live in Brooklyn) but since GamePro is part of an action figure deal with JoyRide Studios, I'm going to help present the line of video game action figures (including, I am insanely proud to announce, an action figure of me, which will be made in limited quantities). While I'm in New York, I hope to be able to make a pilgrimage to Hook & Ladder #8. We'll see how it goes.

However…as a hybrid presenter/press member, I will also be visiting a few other showrooms. I intend to inquire about GB figures at McFarlane. I know petitions have been written (I've signed them!) and sent and we get up and down answers, but nothing's wrong with bringing it up in person. If enough people keep bringing it up, we might get somewhere.

I'm also going to discuss it with JoyRide, of course (and next week around this time you should be able to see works in progress on GamePro.com or joyridestudios.com). But I know a lot of fans have their heart set on McFarlane, since the quality and detail is so high.

I will report back in a week. And if there are any NYC GBs out there, I'm staying at the Sheraton at 53rd and 7th, under my real name. You can find that fairly easily if you have a copy of PlayStation 2 for Dummies. smile

Dude!

Now you can make your own custom Dan Elektro Ghostbusters action figure!

(and how, pray tell, does one go about getting their hands on this highly collectible action figure?)

BTW, looking online, getting to the GB firehouse via subway seems to be:

Take the 2 line to Franklin St–comes out on Varick, walk 1 block north to N. Moore

Can anyone confirm?

The action figures will be available in July. Toy Fair will determine where they are sold. smile If nothing else, you should be able to get them through our website, I think. But hopefully they'll be in EB too.

Yes, that's the plan to get there Dan. Though it's not really a block away from the station exit. It's more like “Holy Crap! It's right there across the street!”

There might be more than one exit, but the one I came up from puts you right there. You can't miss it.

Everything went great. The GamePro line–which is more like the video game all-star line, with Crazy Taxi and Cel Damage and Sonic and Luigi and Metroid and VF4 and SSX Tricky–went over big. And I pitched GB to JoyRide, and they liked it. I don't know what McFarlane's folks thought.

I know of one GB toy that is in the very early stages of development, and I think it's something a lot of people would want, but I can't say anything yet, because they're just starting to get the rights. But man, I hope it goes through. It's a “why didn't anybody ever do that before” kind of thing, and it would fit in well with the company's other offerings. But it's not McFarlane so don't freak out. smile

Oh! And I did make it to the firehouse. The front of the building is under construction, has some scaffolding on it. But I went in, they were really nice, bought the t-shirt ($20), let me take pictures, the whole bit. And they're gamers so we were able to talk about GTA3 and MGS2 and stuff, too. smile

Basically all the stories about how friendly they are to GB fans are entirely true. There's a red door on the right side of the building–just knock and someone will open, let them know that you're a GB fan on a pilgrimage, and they'll let you right in. There's a photo collage of Aykroyd posing with everybody during the GB2 filming, and the GB2 sign is indeed still on the wall. If you go to New York, absolutely go!
