I'm brand new to the boards here, but I've been a visitor for a long time.
How come the idea of communicating with ghosts has never been brought up? I mean other than in the cartoons (which weren't really considered canon anyway) why hasn't that ever been an option?
I personally think that a GB3 movie would involve some kind of communication with the ghost world. This would make the entire Venkman-Ghost scenario maybe make a little more sense. It would also make for foreshadowing as Egon could have been working on some kind of device used to speak to the ghosts they had been capturing.
It seems like with almost 30 years of busting, that these guys wouldn't just sit on innovation. Wouldn't there be some new device? The game touched on these scenarios, and I'm sure that by now Ghosts aren't always going to be wild animals, I mean there's clearly a hierarchy of materialization in the ghost world, and surely by now since the Ghostbusters clearly know how to classify these differences, that they've done more to specialize some kind of communication with these otherwise random spirits.
That's just my thoughts on the whole thing, and Venkman being a ghost doesn't necessarily mean that he's dead, he could be in a coma. Yeah it's not necessarily a brand new idea, but he could be dead in the first reel, only to come back by the third just in time to save the guys. It would be the “role of a lifetime” if Venkman was the sole reason for saving the hides of the rest of the squad.
